5-1/4 inch to 6-1/2 Speaker mount cutout for GS300, and all types of makes and model vehicles. It allows your aftermarket speakers to mount behind your factory panel without any modification.
There is also room on the side for the aftermarket crossover to also be screwed in and mounted as well.
UPDATE: I have all brackets and speakers in, but the rears will require you to use the 4 plastic spacer dowels (I used 2 of them in total. The other 2, I used in the front on the bracket so that I would not have to bend the bracket all the way back tot door just to drill them in.) that come with the kit. The spacers will need to be used for the interior door panel with a 1-1/4 inch (bought mine from Home Depot) screw of the same thread. This will prevent the speaker from contacting the door panel. On each rear door, I used the long plastict spacer with the 1-1/4 inch screw on the bottom segment of the factory door panel screw hole. It is the screw hole on the base/bottom, closest to the door hinge/pillar.
Now that my 6.5 inch speaker is interference free, I will have to modify the rear ashtray because that makes contact with the outer rim of the speaker, and will not sit flush at all. So I will have to cut the bottom portion back a bit, and make a new bottom for the ashtray. The window switch segment of the ashtray seems to be fine.
I finally installed the speakers and speaker adapters today. I didn't realize my speakers are actually 6.75 in. and not 6.5 in. so I had to use a die grinder to open up the hole slightly. Just light Kene mentioned the front install was fine and it provided a place for me to mount the crossovers as well.
I am kind of angry that the ashtray will need to be modified so it will fit in the door panel properly. I think that is something that should have been taken care of during the design process for these especially for the price....almost $70 with shipping!!!
KENE - Did you come up with a way to modify the ashtray? I was thinking about cutting the bottom flat and using a small piece of fiberglass mesh to make a new bottom. What do you think?
Modifications of the rear right ashtray. I used GTMat(Dynamat) to wrap over, and seal the bottom of the cut ashtray insert. It is the silver metallic piece in the pictures. Now the ashtray does not make contact with the 5-1/4 inch speaker (or even a 6.5 in). The led bracket (Hole in the bottom of ashtray for the LED/plug to go into) was unscrewed during the cutting, and screwed back in after. The led lighting still functions as normal.
Just finished installing my speaker upgrades about a week ago and ran into the same issue. I was going to shave the bottom portion of the ashtray off and leave it since no one smokes in the back but this seems like a cleaner solution. Thanks!
Cool! I am glad this helped you guys. I was second guessing if anyone really even cared about this kind of mod, but I am now happy that I posted it. An extra thing to keep in mind is when cutting is to NOT completely cut off plastic mounting tab at the tip of the ashtray/switch unit. I cut a segment off of the bottom, but I still left the tab. This way the whole window switch/ashtray assembly will still firmly stay in the door when going over large road bumps, etc.
If you cut this tab off completely, then the whole assembly will easily plop out of the door as there will be nothing securing it in place.
