Default Tires/Rims

I was wondering what you guys think about this. I have a stock car with 18's on it right now.

I was thinking of putting some 20's on (it should fit). What's your experience with tires/rims?

I'm perfectly happy with my 18's, and personally, I see no reason to go bigger. But it's your car...

Personal theories here (it is all a series of compromises...)

Take into consideration how much power you are making, increasing the size of the rims makes the tire/wheel combo heavier, making an already slow (stock) GS worse. Each ~1 LB increase in the rotational mass reduces effective HP by ~1 HP.

Brakes, Stock will seem really small viewed through a 20" rim, but does give you the option of going bigger.

Suspension, to keep the rotational size approximately the same as stock (so as not to effect gearing and speedo accuracy) requires ever lower profile tires, increasing the impact loading sent through the suspension and bushings. increased suspension wear and loss of ride quality.

Also I would consider what sizes and at what prices are tires available. All personal choices to be weighed against the 'look' you desire. As I too am in Colorado, and my GS is bone stock (slow), my compromise was to go to 17" w/ 245/45-17 tires, slightly smaller diameter than stock (25.7" vs. 26.2", to try to give it a small gearing advantage...).

Look forward to seeing your 'compromise', - All the best!
