Default Window seal thing bent

I bought this 94 Lexus GS300 from my brother, and it looks as though someone tried to pry open the door. He doesn't know how it happened, though.

You can see in the photos that the frame around the glass is bent out at the corner.

What is the best way to fix this?

Just about every 1st Gen GS has that problem. I don't know why but they do. The only way I know to fix it is get lucky and find a good one at a junk yard or visit your local Lexus dealer a drop $400 for a new one!!!

There is a thread on here that shows how to take apart. Im not sure how that trim is seeded. I would say some sort of epoxy could fix it? But not sure never came across or seen it in person

Oh by the way! WELCOME TO CL! Make sure to introduce yourself and post pics od your car here. Where you from?

I'm from Altadena, Ca. It's directly north of Pasadena.

Is there a formal way to introduce myself?

TRACKMKIII, how do you remove the trim? It seems like it's glued on there pretty good. If I saw one in a junk yard, I'm not sure how I'd pull it off.

2k4CamkilA, do you have a link to the thread that talks about pulling the trim off?

Thanks

I've done some research on the threads to fix this. Some have had success with glue or tape, others have mentioned rivets.

I doubt glue will hold mine down, as I can barely press the seal back to the door myself. I can't imagine glue will work.

As for rivets, won't they show? Do I really drill a hole in the seal and the door, then put a rivet through?

Does anyone have a picture of what that looks like?

Thanks

I used Toyota fipg black on my old GS. I just squeezed some in there then used some soft rubber tipped locking c clamp to push it back in place and it held for at least a year that I owned it.

Same thing happened to mine and just about everyone else's GS (especially in warmer climates). You can fix it any of the ways above, but I preferred to buy another window trim and have that put on. My driver door was backed into so I bought and painted new door, had the old moldings removed and voila. perfectly sealed cabin. You can either find a cheap door with intact molding, or find just the black molding which can be an expensive find. I know a few shops that were selling moldings in Northern CA lmi if you need any help.
