Default non working gas gauge.

Just bought the car, thought the buyer just being an *** by selling me a car with no gas haha. I put some gas to get home and nothing. Ive been busy with my newborn daughter so I have to time to check it out.

When i have the chance,My first think is to check out the floating device in the fuel tank. Wat u guys think?

Does the gauge cluster have LEDs in place of the amber-looking lights? If they took apart the gauge, there's a bunch of screws which need to be installed correctly or else the gauge will not work. The sending unit is most likely the culprit, though.

Mostly from what I've read and I have a similar issue its the stepper motor for the gauge itself. Best way to tell is drive around till the gas light comes on. If it does come on the sending unit is good And its a bad stepper motor. Its a common Lexus issue. My ls400 does it. Lucky neither of my GS have that issue.there are a few places that repair them just do a search on here.

There are a couple shops that post on here that repair them. The stepper motor is right behind the gauge. Its actually the shaft that the needle is pressed on too.

I'm pretty sure lextech.org fixes the gauges but its best to email them as their site id rather vague and confusing.

^^ Yeah they do, but gas gauge motors and temp motors are different from the tach and speedo motors. Gas especially since its a stepper motor. Usually a sending unit when the gas motor doesn't work, but there are a couple inspections and tests that can be ran to determine the motors usability.

So I just need to punch my car lol? Hope it keeps working. Sure is easier and cheaper than sending it off.
