I was driving the other day and the gauges all freaked out and the radio turned off. I made it home and turned it off, tried to restart the car and it wouldnt turn over. battery read 11.8v across the posts. Removed the alternator and took it to be tested where it failed.

I replaced the alternator today and the charge is only reading 12.25v at idle, it will go up to around 12.8 when the motor is reved.

Am I looking at a bad battery, or something more major?

Firgot to mention im running a 2jzgte aristo swap. I replaced the alternator with a 94 tt supra unit.

You can load test the battery before you replace it.

id take it to an auto parts store and have them test it (it's free usually)

I had the battery load tested and it checked out fine. It took me about a week to figure it out. but the problem ended up being that the previous owner neglected to put a ground strap between the block and the chassis when doing the swap. Installed one and it's charging at 14v.
