Default First Gen Brakes Sux?

Hey guys, looking for input. On my stock rotors and pads, I had to get the rotors turned every few months or I would get vibrations when braking. Switched to new rotors a few months ago(crossdrilled and slotted) and green stuff pads up front and kvr carbon pads out back. The vibrations are back. Anyone else have this problem? Is it caused by the ABS system? If it is, how can I disable ABS? Thanks.

it's weird, and why should it be the ABS ??

I am changing all the 4 rotors tomorrow, and still the old used onces as for today, don't vibrate at all.

did you balance the wheels?? line out done ??
bearings ok ?? suspension ??
all this can influence the braking.

check everything out for starters, you 'll soon find out what's wrong

yezzzzz.......

I figured maybe it was the ABS because of the pulsing. Maybe it tears up the rotors or something. Maybe the ABS system is outta whack. Shocks are new from TRD, rotors are new, pads are new, alignment done within the last 2000 miles. Everytime I resurface the rotors, the ride is good for about a month, decent for another 2 months, then undrivable till I get the rotors resurfaced again. Thanks.

ABS doesn't kick in unless it senses that you lost traction. Doubt that's your prob. If you want to disable it, though, that's easy. Just pull the fuse.

I'd do what blue wax suggested also you can try bleeding your brakes. I'd get the bearings checked by the dealer just to be safe.

How much is your car lowered? Even with just the Eibach 1.2" drop, the car will NOT completely align in the front. The insides of your tires will wear quickly and cause that "shimmy."

It is a pain for dumb a$$es like me who use a staggered setup and can't rotate tires! Have you priced the Toyo T1S in a 19 inch size recently? Ouch.

Anyway, if possible, try to rotate your tires and see if that does anything.

Thanks for the tips guys....will try them out. Car is lowered 1.75 inches withy Espilir springs and the rims are 19x8 all around. I've had this problem since I bought the car 4 years ago. 3 different sets of tires and rims, so I don't think it's a balancing issue. Tire wear could be a problem maybe, I've had the car lowered since day 1

Forgot to mention that I only get the vibrations during high speed braking. 90 to 40 on the freeway cause someone cut me off, freeway exit ramps, etc. Thanks.

i had same problem too...I replaced front rotors and pads and 4000 miles later (in one month) of long highway trips vibration is still gone. I don't know what else you could try other than to bleeed brake fluid for air. ABS has nothin to do with braking unless you lose traction so that aint problem. I'd bet alignment or balancing or ball joints or something. sorry i couldn't help much i just thought i should let you know my experience with the problem.

I can't remember the exact detail but I know the JZS147 GS's have a issue with the front control arm or something...maybe a bushing is worn...try asking this questions in the Maintenance section...there are a few Lexus Techs in there and maybe they can answer your question...

Just found this. Anyone think this could be my problem? My shifter does vibrate back and forth when I brake. Thanks again.

Could be the wheel bearing...I remember the JZS147 GS's had some front end issue that was suppose to be covered under warranty for even out of warranty cars...

On a side note, on older cars (especially 10 year old ones), I would recommend changing the Tranny and Engine mounts. I did it in my SC and it feels like a new car! Amazing what a difference this makes!

I believe the OEM's from later model years are improved. They usually put the newest one in that will fit correctly. Lexus does these running changes so you won't need to worry about getting some old crap...unless you have a shady dealership...

And I don't know what the newer ones look like...I just trust my mechanic...
