2005 GS300 Failed emission readiness test
This is my wife's car. Her car has lost her radio presets today. Manually tuning a station then holding the desired button merely returns the radio to the already playing station. There is no beep after a few seconds as expected. Coincidentally, I took her car to an inspection station today, and it failed the readiness test. The KOEO test passed. The MIL CMD passed. The DLC passed. I have no idea what those are.
The guy running the inspection asked me if we had recently bought a new battery. We hadn't. He said to drive the car for about 50 to 75 miles, do not exceed 55 mph, and then bring it back for a retest.
Aside from not being able to place a radio station into new memory, the radio appears to behave normally. The button above the windshield still opens the garage door as before. I did not try any other electronic diagnostics.
The computer printout that the guy at the inspection station gave me says that the car failed because the on-board computer is "not ready" to determine the status of the pollution control system.. It says to drive the vehicle for 1 -2 weeks under normal conditions and include some highway driving.
It also says to contact the manufacturer for detailed information on completing the "drive cycle". No repairs or diagnostic analysis may be needed at this time.
Can anyone give me some hints on properly getting this car to complete the emission inspection?
