Starter Problem Need Help ASAP
ive just started having this problem the day of thanksgiving. when I go to turn the key all I get is a loud click and I have to turn the key like 5 or 6 times and then finally the starter will engage and starts right up. Ive took the starter out and tested it ive checked the connections on the starter. and I just replaced the battery terminals. I dont know what else I could check or could be the problem any one who has had this or somethin similar point me in a direction. I do have a aftermarket alarm installed and am looking into that but just wondering what else it could possibly be. thanks to all who can offer some help

Yes you can.. here is the link... I just did it last week.

Starter Kit, Motor terminal : 28226-74070
Starter Kit, Battery terminal : 28226-22050
~$40 for both
and optionally
Plunger: 28235-55050
~$50
I did both kits. Went to longo lexus in el monte to get a price quote(11$, and 12$ and special order), then walked across the parking lot to longo toyota and got a quote of (12$, and 17$ for the same parts). I mention lexus next door is cheaper and they lowered it ti be less than lexus, and they gave the kits to me on the spot. I did not get the plunger as ti was expensive and is rarely ever needed I heard. Hope this helps you out. there was also a starter removal post on here(a guy and his dad worked on it) that convinced me (motivational) into not thinking that I had to take off the intake body.
To remove the top bolt for the starter(there's only 2 total on the starter) you need a 14mm socket and about 3-3.5 ft of a ratchet/socket extension with a swivel pitch at the tips(any parts store will know what this is[This is actually a non swivel extension - http://www.toolstation.com/images/li...big/66772.jpg]). I actually used 3 ratchet/socket extenders back to back. And you kinda need to fit them into the left side transmission tunnel (the part under the body of the car that is a large passage for the tranny to fit) as you are ratcheting that top starter bolt out. Having the swivel option will allow for each extension to kinda angle around any bends in the way, instead of only being straight(I think the job is impossible if they are only straight).
The bottom bolt can be done with a size 14mm wrench(helps if the side that fits on the bolt is angled up a bit from the grip[http://www.bunchobikes.com/wrenches.jpg]
vs.
a standard flat wrench[http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._diagonal.gif])
and pay very close attention as to how you wiggle out the starter as you are working from under the car. There is not alot of room so it kinda goes into the engine region a certain way. Pay close attention to the way you move it out.
You need a 14 mm wrench or socket for the positive power terminal, and the smal power remote lead can be removed by pudhing hard on the tab and pulling cautiously out.(try not to pull on the wire, its small and somewhat delicate.)
Hope this helps you.
