Default What kind of oil and filter do you use?

Its time for an oil change!! For my first oil change I just used the conventional Pennzoil and a Toyota D3 oil filter, but now that I have plans to keep the car and I know the motor is still healthy I plan to switch to Royal Purple 5w-30 with an RP or K&N oil filter. Just curious what you guys are using?

GREAT Thread! I use non-synthetic Mobile One and WIX filters. WIX has the best quality control in the business and I wouldn't consider any others.

I would like to hear if anyone has dared switch to Synthetic Oil and what the results have been.

I always ran Castrol GTX high mileage non synthetic with a Wix filter and will continue in the future.

In my quad I run wix filters and Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil and wouldn't have it any other way! But I change this EVERY trip (10-15 hours).

Is there a reason you guys stay away from synthetic oils?

Ive used synthetic for years. Quaker state full synthetic 5w-30. Wiz filter as well. My accord with the h22 swap ran synthetic Valvoline 10w-30.

I do too. I believe in synthetics!! I run Royal Purple in all of my cars and it has never let me down.

The general rule of thumb is if you use synthetics, stick with it as if you make the switch on seals used to regular oil then the seals will shrink in the presence of synthetic oil.

This is what I've been told over and over again. That the car will start leaking oil very soon after switching to synthetic.

I have heard that myth before too! If leaks due start after switching to synthetic I don't believe its because of the seals shrinking due synthetic oils. If anything I think the synthetic may clean sludge/build up which was helping keep oil from leaking but that still just means the seals were bad so it was time for them to go. I just switched to Royal Purple the other days so I will let you guys know if any leaks start. Currently my car has no leaks from any seals.
