To those with larger wheels... be careful out there
Hey guys,
I know it is common knowledge that when you get larger wheels and thinner tires there is an increased chance of bending or breaking your wheels, ripping apart your tires, and the like.
So when you're driving out there, dodge those potholes and avoid or slow down considerably in construction areas. Cause you don't want those cast rims to break nor those expensive forged rims to bend...
Why the public service announcement?
guess what happened to me...
The NJ Hwy gods decided it was time to consume my drivers side wheels...
ah well. time for new ones!

dude, you had to have been going fairly fast for that to happen.
the roads in my city are known to be the worst in the province, even smaller towns of a couple 1000 people have better raods than us, and i'm running similar size tires on mine, looks to be what a 25 or 35 series sidewall? and i haven't had problems of them blowing apart like that,
what kind of rims are those?

I was traveling approx 55-60mph and there was a huge pothole in the road. About as deep as 3/4 of a wheel. I dodged that but apparently, there was a truck with a trailer that had hit the pothole before me and both the doors came off the back of the trailer due to the impact and were laying in the road. They were the same dark charcoal color as the road and on top of that it was raining and I was trying to avoid the huge pothole. When my car went over the doors, the hinge of the door was sticking up and tore through my drivers side wheel, made contact with the rim, and broke it in half; then it did the same thing to my drivers side rear wheel. I was in a T-bone accident once where both cars were totaled, and the impact and shudder in the car felt nearly the equivalent of that. I knew without getting out of the car the wheels were lost, but I was terrified that other parts of the car took the hit too. Fortunately, nothing else was harmed, but still... while this was a freaking ridiculous set of events, be careful out there
my tires were 245/35/19 fronts and 275/30/19 rears.
the wheels were ADR M-sport.
But i already purchased another set of 19s staggered, so I'll be happy when they arrive and i will also be far more careful in the future. But in all honesty, crazy stuff like this happens from time to time... you guys know the saying. pay to play

when you alter something drastically like that, its bound to happen. judging from your tire height/profile and the wheel size, looks like you were pushing the limit of what fits and looks great on the car, but at the risk of decreased safety. That kind of damage could have cost you your life ..and others as well in worst case scenario. Glad you are okay. I hope you will rethink ..safety and ride quality first... then looks . Those size tires are not cheap to replace.. but definitely glad you are ok. wheels and tires are replaceable...

If I had 2K to throw down, i'd certainly like to get wheels like yours, but unfortunately, my car is not my priority, so it can only get a certain amount of money thrown at it. really nice though...

1) Take pics of the pothole
2) Find a contingency attorney
3) Sue the DOT
Trust me, even when people tell you it wont work, it will, all you'll have to do is meet an attorney with the photos once and sign a contract.. he will take care of the rest and mail you a check.

I don't think the DOT could take the blame for third party damages and on top of that, there were no markings on the trailer doors so I could affix blame on that person. I think its a lost cause trying to get money for them.
