Becuase if you went with a 35 in the front and a 35 in the rear, you'd have a mismatched set. If you were to go with that set-up, you'd have a taller tire in the rear than in the front. 35 in the front and 30 in the rear is a better match, speaking in terms of rolling diameter. If you were to got 35 front, 35 rear, your rear tire would be an 1" taller in the rear and that would look kinda weird.

it really doesn't sit an 1'' higher, more like an 1/4 in. higher, you can't really notice it. i was told the same thing by the shops to go with the same set up, but hell i'm a college student i don't have that much money. My car rides good and i hardly feel any bumps, so thats all that i really care about.

You are correct in saying that your set-up is only about 1/4" taller in the rear. That's because you're running a 235/35 and a 245/35. They are closer in proportion so of course the rolling diameter is going to be pretty much the same. It's actually 1/2" taller in the rear but after the tire has been compressed by the weight of the car then it's closer to the 1/4" in the rear as you have stated.

But, El Cap's set-up is different, he's talking about a 275/35 not a 245/35.

Here are tire size charts from www.tirerack.com. You can see for yourself the rolling diamters of the tire sizes in question. You will see that a 275/35/19 is indeed almost 1" taller than a 245/35/19

I have high-lighted the tires in question in red

As you can see, 245/35/19 and the 275/30/19 are better matched in terms of rolling diameter - 25.7" and 25.6" With the 275/35/19 you end up with a rolling diameter of 26.6", therefore making it about an 1" taller.
