Default Swapping steering wheels

I didn't know if I should post this in the LX fourm or the GS so I posted it here cause I bet you guys know more. I have a 1994 GS and my mom just bought a 2001 LX470. She dosn't like the steering wheel cause she says wood is for old people. Our interiors match and I was wondering how difficult it would be (if at all possible) to swap out steering wheels. Thanks.

Well I've seen someone swap out a gen 1 steering wheel with a gen 2 steering wheel "the one with wood grain" It looked kinda funny because of the big lexus emblem, so in that aspect I know it can be done with the GS family.

Details on the airbag please. Is it also a 01 GS300 airbag? Is it connected? Thanks.

well unless the airbag was deployed it's still there, and it would be just a tad obvious if it had been deployed. whether or not it's a direct plug, who knows. one way to find out
go to a junk yard and take a pic of the harness, and look at your own, do they match? if it plugs in it might work, only real way of testing is to take a bat and hit your airbag sensor on your bumper lol and I don't think anyone has the ***** or money to waste testing that theory.

O.K. the wheel is actually from a 2002 gs430(same as 300 but part wood)and the airbag does work. He had to get the clockspring from the donor car as well. The clockspring goes right under the steering wheel and plugs into the airbag. So if u wanted to do this it would work.Just gotta find the wheel, airbag and clockspring and ur good to go. Here is a sideview.....

So the 1GS do not have the single-stage/dual-stage issue? As far as we can tell, the 98-00 and 01-05 airbags were not compatible not only because of the plug but because of the airbaf functionality as well. Was there anything custom that needed to be done for the plugs to work? Here is a pic of the back of the two types.
