Good deal on LCD computer display...
I was looking for a black bezel 17" flat panel display with DVI and good specs.
I found the Hitachi CML175B 1280x1024 display for $449 SHIPPED at MonitorsDirect.com with codes "175steal" and "Sunrise". It's 400:1 contrast, and 16ms response time.
Looks like a great deal. Let me know if you think I made a mistake!
Now I gotta get a DVI video card...

bit,
I bought my 18" retail Dell LCD (LG rebadged) from Dell for the around the price you paid not too long ago. Dell often has coupon and promotion on various items like CD burners and LCD. My LCD comes with DVI and VGA. And I'm running dual monitors DVI with Dell LCD and VGA with IBM LCD via ATI Radeon 9700 non-pro.

Sweet moniter! I always like Dell flat panels. We have two of those 18" ultra sharp LCDs that my mangers use at my work and it is a HUGE screen. Looks very nice.
For my personal use tho I prefer Dells 17" 1702 flat panel or the 20" version. Mainly for it's dot pitch of .26 and .25 respectly.

Price for 18": $450
Price for 19": $600
Price for 20": $800
I personally think 18" is the best bang for the buck. Plus there is a known problem for Dell and Samsung 19" LCD with ATI Radeon DVI output. So far, there is no fix on it and both companys are pointing fingers to each other.

Dell has a special right now, i payed something like $597.00 including shipping mainly just to get the 18.1" 1800FP Digital Flat Planel but it also comes with a celeron 2.0 ghz with 30 gig ultra ata 7200 rpm drive and has basic specs for that type of pc, also comes with windows xp.. the pc is not very good but it makes a great linux box or seperate PC so people coming over don't touch yours.. they also throw in a free palm zire, printer, digital camera and I think there was a couple other options as well.. this seemed like a good deal to me, I bought 2 of them

The hitachi is suppose to be the BEST LCD out there...Unless you play games it might be overkill though because you wont need that fast of a refresh rate...With games and slow refresh rates you will see ghosting....

TigerDirect doesn't have many good feedbacks from various DEALS forums. I wouldn't trust them with the money.
mdw131,
I think none of the LCD today is meant to play games with, even with the latest line. However, I didn't notice much ghosting when I played CS. Could it be the DVI?

There's tons of 'deals' on panels that don't have DVI right now.

Its funny that Tiger Direct is 10 minutes from my house yet Ive never been there or ordered from them....I too have heard bad things about them from deal boards, especially regarding rebate fulfillment.

I've bought several things from TigerDirect no problems. Two things to be concerned about... 1) READ THE FINE PRINT CAREFULLY - they have good lawyers I suspect, and you ONLY get what they offer (that's ok though if you're careful). 2) They often promote rebates that have already expired. Probably just screw ups on their part, but pay attention.
I definitely looked at their flat panel display selection and 95% of it doesn't have DVI which is why it's 'cheap'. And if it does have it the other factors (dot pitch, response rate, size, price) aren't so hot. Plus, I want a black frame, and many are silver or white which rules them out for me.

bit,
If DVI is what you want, anything that doesn't come with that isn't a deal for you. I've used various size of Dell LCD from 17" analog to 20" analog/digital and they all serve me very well. You can also look into Planar LCD. I've read some good reviews on them.
genearch,
I'm glad you've had positive experience with them. When reading so many negative feedbacks on various forums, one tends to avoid the vendor. Calling CC to cancel could be a hassle for me and that's why I only stick to a few stores that I know I can trust, such as amazon, newegg, googlegear, ateck (for video cards only), and etc.

My display finally showed up. It's AWESOME. And DVI is the only way to go to get perfectly crisp text on screen. Now I don't know what do with all this freed up desk space!
