I jus recently bought an sc300. The seller said it has a blown head gasket. He said he was driving it home 1 day n saw clouds of white smoke n immediately turned it off. He later took it to get it checked and the mechanic told him something about malfunction with the ecu. I tried to start the car but it would only turn over. The car also has been sitting for a yr n change so im guessing it has bad gas in it also. A friend of mine has a vvti non turbo 2jz from a is300 with ecu but no harness. I was going to swap it but i dont have the harness. Then i was thinking maybe i should jus buy a motor corresponding with the yr of my car n switch it out. Im a novice when it comes to these cars even though im sum what mechanically inclined so I dont know what to do.
My question now is..
1 Should i source a harness for the vvti motor n purchase my friends engine?
2 find a ecu for my current motor and see what it does?

Btw i still dont really know if the headgasket is really blown..the car has a brand new wp, radiator, alternator, sparkplugs,idk if that makes a difference.

any help from the locals would be greatly appreciated. Im located in Margate.

Jay try opening up the ecu and see if there are any leaking capacitors or any damage. If it's damaged, try to find another ecu or get yours rebuilt.

the Ecu looks fine Shameed. It doesnt have a burnt smell, doesnt have any leaking capacitors and nothing looks like it needs to be re soldered. Wish i could test it somehow but idk any1 with a sc300 like mine..are there any other diagnostic solutions to my problem?

Those non vvti motors can found for less, then you going thru all that with the harness/ vvti ecu. That should be your step if your ecu is fine ..Good luck

I took the car to lexus.. they told me the ecm is bad n that caused catastrofic failure...then they humured me with the "we can get ur car running again speech for $17,854"....while he was telling me that a tech walked by n told me he had a low mileage motor for my car but he has no ecm so i need to sorce 1. Isnt the ecm the same as ecu? the service advisor told me the 2 computers down there on the passenger side werent talking to each other so i need to figure out if i need both or jus 1. If any has 1 or both lmk.

Im going to...but i think im jus going to switch both computers down there and change my oil n plugs. I checked my oil yesterday n it smelled like gas.
