I have year 2000 Harrier Four (RX300 AWD) 64,000km, fuel consumption is 4.0 km/l (around 10mpg), this seems to me way too high. It used to be 5.5 km/l before my mechanic cleaned the IAC - any idea??

Hi all,

I have a 2001 RX300 AWD. It has around 63,000 miles on it. I had the timing belt, spark plugs and the 2 fuel/air sensor replaced around 62,000 miles in August 2009.

Hi all,

I have a 2001 RX300 AWD. It has around 63,000 miles on it. I had the timing belt, spark plugs and the 2 fuel/air sensor replaced around 62,000 miles in August 2009.

About 2 weeks after the timing belt, etc was done, I had a hard time starting it. It would take sometimes 5 twists of the key for the RX to start. I thought it was related to the timing belt, etc. work, but I did some searching on CL to see if anyone else had the same problems I had.

After searching, I came across the DIY IACV cleaning. I cleaned out the IACV myself and it started fine after that (started on the first twist of the key). I noticed then that the RX was idling at high rpms at idle or coming to a stop (sometimes around 1,200 or 1,300 rpms)...even after being warmed up and driven for a while. I cleaned the IACV a second time, and the idle calmed down a little and idled around 1,000 rpms.

Now about 2 weeks after the 2nd cleaning, the CEL and VSC light came on today. I scanned the RX with the OBD2 scanner and the code states P0505 (Idle Control System Malfunction).

Should I try another IACV cleaning? Or do I need to replace the IACV itself? Anyone have a the actual part number for the IACV? Will I damage the RX in any way if I continue driving it with this Idle Control System Malfunction?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The P0171 code is only code im getting. The download shows up as two times in code reader.

She had shoulder surgery and hasn't been driving so I took the car out yesterday to run some errands and give it something to do. It did it to me 90% of the time during my trip and several times it did so very loudly and almost violently. It never behaves this way when going up or down from any other gears. The 1st-to-2nd upshift is liquid velvet smooth.

I'm going to be taking the car in but would like to get an idea as to what we might be in for. :uh:

Thanks.

Also im looking into maybe 45 offset gs450h rims instead of the rx330 rims...will 45 offset fit i believe the rx300 16s are a 35 offset.

I am the original owner of a 2001 RX with 95,500 miles and just found out today that I have transmission failure. The dealership told me that a remanufactured unit will run me roughly $4100 and comes with a 12 month warranty. I was in shock when my service advisor told me this so I did not have the opportunity to formulate any questions. After reading the posts on this site as well as on the National Highway Traffice and Safety Administration site, I am upset because this appears to be a "known" problem, but there has not been any type of recall. I am going to talk to my service advisor tomorrow to find out if there is any help that Lexus can provide considering I have maintained the service on my vehicle. Does anyone have any suggestions on whether I should consider just trading it in as is to the the dealer and purchase something new? I have been a loyal Lexus owner, but now I am skeptical about purchasing another Lexus. I also worry whether I will have more transmission problems down the road with this remanufactured one that is only under warranty for 12 months? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I estimate the value of my car to be roughly $11k to $13k. I REALLY love(d) my RX and am so upset! Is this a problem with the GX470s too?

Hi All,
I hope you can help so I will start at the beginning. I had the oil changed on my 2001 RX300. They did check the air filter but did not change as it was clean. I start the car and find CEL/VSC lights on so i check the vacuum hose that can pull off, still connected. I get the codes read, P1135 and P1130 pending. I assume since the lights came on after the air filter box was opened it was not truely the AF sensor bank1, sensor1. I clear the codes with a code reader and the lights come back on. Knowing the only activity was at the box, today I remove the box and unplug the MAF plug from the harness as well as the smaller plug in the lid of the box. I removed the suspect hose to inspect for a crack. No cracks, hose reinstalled. I plug the 2 harness connections together, put it all back together and pull the EFI fuse to try and clear the codes and see if all was well. Now, the RX cranks and won't fire. I check the security light on the dash. It blinks until I insert the key and light goes out, telling me all 3 of my keys are being recognized by the ECU, but still cranks and won't fire. So my initial CEL/VSC problem may still be an unresolved issue but now I have to get the RX running before I can return to the original problem. Any thoughts, as I am tossing a rope around a tree branch and forming a noose as I type this. Your input is not only welcome, but much appreciated.
