2007 es 350 ul, 153,000 miles: A couple of months ago the check vsc and engine lights came on a few days after getting a new set of tires. Car ran fine and lights went out a few days later. This week the lights came on again, the next day I could feel a vibration coming from beneath the car and then the engine light flashes. I drove it to the mechanic who ran a scan, codes for every cylinder came up. The next day he could not find anything wrong with it and the lights went off for him. They came on again as soon as I left the parking lot. The only thing that might be related is that my son ran the car out of gas on sunday, some old gas was put in, less than 4 oz, car wouldnt start til I put 2 gallons in. Lights came on the next day, two fill ups since them. I'm really worried.

It is constant and doesn't fluctuate with the fan speed. It is definitely linked to the control system since when I turn the system off the noise stops. Anyone else ever experience this? At first I thought it was coming from the voices in my head, but my wife confirmed they weren't causing it :D

I saw where the insurance industry has released the list of safest cars. I did not see any Lexus on that list. The Camry was one of the best. If this is true, why not the ES350. I have just traded my Volvo(very safe), for a ES350. Have I made a mistake safety wise?

I just received my letter from Lexus on the floor mat fiasco. The net was if you are to stupid to see that your floor mat is slipping and sliding under your feet you may end up with the accelerator peddle getting stuck in the WOT position. This notice does not apply to rocket scientists or brain surgeons but to the common folks with lessor intelligence. The need for this letter is to reduce the number of Darwin awards given out for this situation. Lets be careful out there and make sure that you wear your helmets when you drive. Oh and try to keep your texting down to 10 words or less. This give you the ability to see the accident instead of just hearing it happen. Good luck and may the force be with you.

Folks,

I am ready to order all my parts for the ES350 Levinson upgrade. I've sourced everything, I think. I will fully document this upgrade so you all can see how it is done. I'm doing this over Thanksgiving.

Would someone who has done this, especially LEXUSAUDIO, be willing to contact me off-list? I want to make sure this is going to be a real full upgrade and no tuning is going to be required. Also, I want to see if dynamat is going to be helpful or any other additions which thing sa re apart. But above all, I really want to make sure I have all the parts!!!!!

I have the 14 speakers, the amp and the new head unit and even a replacement nav system just in case I need to upgrade my nav. (The seller is allowing me to return or exchange the nav so I'm not really buying that, as it were.) I also think I need new real door panels for the tweeter mounts.

Could someone please contact me who has done this so I can be sure I've got everything before I tear the car apart? I'd really appreciate it. I promise you I'll photograph and describe it every step of the way for the benefit of the other list members.......

Many thanks!

Andrew

Here's what cross my mind:
1. From the description, it seems to be a big procedure. The warranty information shows 7.4 unit time. Is it even safe? I am worrying that it will open another can of worms.
2. I only have my car for half a year. Should this be done ASAP?

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am trying to make a decision on an 06 es330 or 07 es350. What are the differences? Where can I find information on reliability of each year Lexus? How can I find out the value of each car when it was new?
If I am buying CPO is the 3 year or 100K miles warranty free or is it an additoinal expense. At CarMax, I was told that I would have to pay an additional $3K for this warranty but when I read some information on line, I got the impression that it was included in the cost of the car. So which is correct - included or extra? If the 3 yrs 100K warranty is included, then would an additional after market warranty be warranted? Is it a lot more expensive to have a Lexus worked on than other foreign brand automobiles as I have a US brand? Any advice that you can send my way would be greatly appreciated as I have driven a Lexus and really like the way that it handles.

Also the Lexus that I drove has a panoramic view window, any pros or cons on this setup?

(The dealership said that the tires were only rated for 20,000 miles) I didn't believe her until I got home and looked for myself and sure enough the car does need tires. How can this be? A car that cost $40,000.00+ has tires that don't last over 20,000 miles? They are worn evenly and have been rotated every other oil change.

So what kind of mileage did you get out of you set that came with your car?

Hi Folks,

I just got a 2007 ES350 with 20k miles on it. It's great but I have a few tweaks I'd like to make.....

The biggest problem is the requirement that I use the SmartKey. There are a number of problems with this chief among them is the fact that my wife will now have to carry a second fob on her chain for a car she'll rarely drive, and I now need to carry my keys with me during the day (not always convenient.)

Our Ford Freestyle has a code touchpad that allows anyone with the code to open the door and grab the keys out of the glovebox and drive off. Ford's have had this for decades.....

That's what I want to do on this ES350.... So..... Would this work?

1. I purchase and install an Essex touchpad or some equivalent device....
http://www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/...ct_Code=KE1601

2. I leave a battery-less programmed Lexus SmartKey in the car at all times, perhaps even permanently mounted behind the dash right near the start button.

This would then give me three ways to enter and start the car.

Number one! Walk up without any key at all, hit the code, enter the car, push the button, start the car, drive off....

Number two! Walk up as usual with a SmartKey, touch the door handle, sit down, start the car.

Number three! Walk up with a mechanical key, open the door with the mech key, sit down and hit the start button....

So, what do you think? I'm really not MODIFYING anything other than installing that Essex code-pad. Everything else follows the normal functioning of the car. Any problems anticipated?

Thanks for your advice....

Andrew

ES 350 vs. Camry

In most reviews of the ES, auto journalists usually mention its close relationship to the Camry. I don't remember ever reading an in-depth comparison, explaining what components are the same and what's different. I also don't remember reading any road tests which compare the driving, ride quality, seat comfort, handling, etc. of both.

Does anyone have experience with both a current model Camry and ES350 and could discuss your impressions of both cars? It's obvious the ES has more standard features, many more available options and a luxury interior. I guess I'm more interested in driving impressions, suspension calibrations, steering feel, etc.

I do have to add that knowing the ES is closely related to the Camry doesn't bother me at all. If platform sharing helps to keep the cost down, that's good enough reason for me.
