My $650 tire valve caps

After seeing the valve caps "disappear" from my Lexus IS for the third time, at $25 or so to replace each set, I decided it was time to go to the local auto parts store and find a less expensive replacement. They were metal and for $4 seemed like a good deal, or so I thought.

Fast forward from last winter...as summer ended and fall approached the temperatures started to drop to the 40s overnight, and my tire pressure light started to go on in the mornings, so I figured it was time to check the tire pressure. However, when I tried to take the caps off, they were stuck. So I grabbed a pair of pliers and tried to loosen the caps... still no luck. Sprayed some WD 40 on the valve stem to see if that would help..no luck. Used my channel locks to see if that might work. Grip was better, but suddenly I heard a snap, and the sound of air rushing out of the valve stem..I had snapped the valve stem. Crap.

Not wanting to try my luck further, I stopped, put on the spare and headed up to my local tire shop. I was planning to buy new tires in the next couple of months so I decided to have them do everything at the same time. I explained my situation and they said they would see if they could get the valve caps off. They warned me that if the valve stem breaks, since it is attached to the TPMS, a new TPMS unit must be installed ($122 per wheel). They called a couple of hours later and said that the new tires were on, but all of the TPMS/valve stems had to be replaced. Also, when you replace the TPMS, the new ones have to be registered with Lexus. You have to take the old TPMS to Lexus and they have to initialize the the new ones. Otherwise the TPMS system is inoperable. Only Lexus can do this. So I took the car to Lexus, and when I called they said the could do it, but hit me with a $150 to initialize the TPMS. I thought this was a bit steep, especially after paying $488 for the new TPMS.

So what did I learn? Don't use cheap metal valve caps which can corrode and fuse onto the valve stems. I now have the Lexus OEM valve caps and if I have to replace them again I will use plastic.

I can't blame Lexus for this, since I was the one who used a non-Lexus part. Hope this helps others avoid the problem I unwittingly caused for myself.

He told me paid 1700 for it (2300-2500 installed) at some shop near his house called easy customs,
i tried to get a brand name from him and stuff but this was all he said

"I have two compressors they are Viar and the bags are something technology and the hoses fitting and values are all half inch . I have one 8 gallon tank i have a complete air ride set up even brackets."

I asked if you could adjust the drop from the inside of the car and he said you could. and he said it could drop to maybe about an inch off the ground

he also managed to send me some pictures of the set up on his impala

but anyways just wondering if you guys think this is a good deal, or if i should get more info on the air bag setup.

Hi, i am new to the world of Lexus... We now own a 2006 Lexus IS 250. So far I have had nothing but trouble with a car that is known to be very reliable in just a few days of owning the vehicle.

We purchased this vehicle used a few days ago and it passed safety. There is powertrain warranty only as there is 55 000 miles on this American car.

The car was safetied and 3 recalls were done at the dealership while still in the old owner's name. To make a long story short, we got the car back and changed it over into my name. Next thing ya know, the power steering failed (PS light came on) as my wife was driving it (my 20 month old was in the car as well). They admitted to the F-up. Something to do with the power steering recall. One of the electrical connectors came loose. Imagine that... My family could have been killed. We had it towed to the dealership and they fixed the problem. I was told they were going to tow it back to us. Next thing ya know, some ancient guy pulls into our driveway driving the car back to us, without our permission. They said they were going to tow it. Anything could have happened on that hour long ride to our place.

When my wife started the car, the CEL was on and it said "check VSC." Having thigns to do, as we all do, she pulled out of the driveway and the car stalled. It continuously did this.. Started, then stalled after 3 seconds...

I called the dealership the next morning. The manager apologized and towed us a loaner vehicle and towed ours back to their facility, but after the end of the day today, they still couldn't figure it out.... Any ideas?

I can't wait for them to try to bill me on this too... Like I said, all this happened in their care. We hadn't touched or driven the car at all.. It went in for one thing, then came back with a slew of other issues.... Is this a normal thing with these cars? I fully checked this car. It isn't a lemon or any of the sort....

Any help would be appreciated....

So as many of you know I just got my 360 Forged Wheels through Janoy @ ISS. Well after having them on the car for a while, I've decided to send them back to Janoy and make some changes. Right now my rear wheels had a 3.5" lip, and my fronts had a 1.5" lip.

To me, they started to look a little 'off'. What I mean is the rears had this deeeeep lip, while the fronts almost looked like flat faced rims in comparison. They just didn't look right together... so anyway, long story short, I'm sending my fronts back to Janoy and having him make them from a 1.5" lip, to a 2.0" lip.

I wanted to know what you all thought about this change? To me, I THINK it will make the wheels look more uniform. I think right now they look at bit TOO staggered, if you know what I mean.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Oh yeah, and if you want pics, just scroll back a few pages. We all know I went a little picture whoring crazy over the last week, lol :D

sup everyone. im a new member here and have been reading up a lot on older posts. learned a lot and figure its time to say wassup to everyone here.
i recently purchased a used 2006 is250 awd with NAV in crystal white. bone stock with 81,000 miles. crazy miles eh? i use to drive a honda s2000 and figure id go with something more luxury and switch to automatic for a little while.

as for the car, i changed oil and changed all brake pads. car doesnt seem to have any problems and runs real smooth. i guess lexus is what it is..lol
i told myself i wont be doing any mods to this car and try to keep it as stock as possible.

however its kinda hard to resist but here are some of my plans:

1. car is white so ill be tinting around 30% all around (im from nyc so i tihnk they are kinda strict here. or should i go for 20-25% since my car is white?)

2. i already purchased luminics yellow fog bulbs. gonna change it up and see how i like it. if not, id go with the HID route.

3, Gonna do the NAV hack with the overrides but unforunately, i have the 6,1 firmware so the destinattion search override wont work. i hear i need to make a hybrid CD?

4. My car doesnt come with stock HID lights. the original owner bought a car with a NAV..why cant he get the HIDs too?!!! I will probably slap on the H11 conversion kit with 6000k

5. I am not sure if I should lower the car. the wheel fender gap is CRAZY BIG!
ive been doing a lot of searches but i get mixed answers regarding springs. since its awd, some people say the tein stech springs wont be good, but others say its ok. i also hear people experience vibrations after install? so which springs should i get if i was to lower? i dont want too much of a drop.

6. if i dont drop my car, im thinking of geting the gfx kit. would it look good on the car if my car is not dropped? anyone have pictures?

7. i will not do anything to exhaust or intake. just gonna keep it stock.

anyway. thanks for reading and i hope to learn more and contribute also here at CL.

1.my question is does it matter what snow tire you put on? the cheapest price for the snow tire i heard was 159 each for a nexton brand? (not sure if i spelled it correct). should i pay more?

2. he said it's good to have all the snow tires the same size as the front. my front is 225/40 r18 and rear is 255/40 r18. is this ture?

3. i have 18in rims on and he said another option is to run 17in tires on too. it's about the same height but different width? im clueless on all this haha.
