Lexus lease mileage extension
Hello all,
Just recently got my ES 350 '15. I come to realize that my monthly mileage isn't enough and want to extend to 12k/year from 10k/year.
I have leased it about 3.5 weeks ago. Any way I can still upgrade?

I am pretty sure you still can do it if it's under 30 days and you are upgrading, not downgrading.

I doubt you can change the terms once you sign the documents, but you can just purchase extra miles. I believe you can do this anytime before 6 months to the end of the lease.

According to this thread, it's 12 cents per mile if purchased during the lease. Versus 20 or 25 cents if you payed at the end of the lease.

I think I remember getting a letter in the mail towards the end of my lease showing an option to purchase miles at a lower rate. I was about 5K miles over my limit , but ended up not buying them and they "forgave" it when I leased another Lexus.
Another option is selling the car before the end of the lease to somewhere like CarMax. If their offer is higher than your residual and remaining payments, you can pocket some money. No more overmileage fee. Unfortunately the residual value on my GS was artificially high, so when I went to get a quote, it was several thousands below my residual.

You cannot buy additional miles during the lease as far as I know.

I can understand why Lexus (and other manufacturers) would not allow, as a general rule, those who lease to change the mileage terms of their leases. Otherwise, people would just lease with minimum mileage leases, and, as the end of those leases approached and they knew how many miles they were going to have driven, they would up the mileage of the lease to match the miles that they had driven. However, I wouldn't be surprised if, for someone who was just a few weeks into a lease, they would allow the customer to switch the lease to a higher mileage lease.
As has been said, even if the sales person says that it can't be done, it might still be worth checking directly with Lexus to see, if nothing else, if a change could be made on a good-will basis.
