Here is a visual of the old and new. I know one is not an h model but that is the only rear shot I could find.

That's a really nice comparison, jollick! Thanks for that. The refresh definitely looks more exciting, but not over the top like the new RX. I really like how they combined the DRL with the headlight cluster instead of just completely separating it. I do find it interesting how the new turn and reversing lights on the back have a horizontal line going through them. I wonder if that has any functional use or is just there for looks.

Nice photo comparison. I can't see if the new design has the rectangular exhaste pipes.

I hope its hot swap-able. Front end swap would be too costly but rear end taillight would be nice. Assuming its a simple part swap.

im pretty sure it, it is the same exact shape and the body panel is the same. Wouldn't want to swap the front end even if it was possible

I'm wondering if Toyota changed sides for the gas tank.

Maybe it's on the left just for the Chinese market? That would be really odd to move the place of the gas tank in a refresh.

You caught me, I had to flip the photo to use it.

In the pictures posted by jollick, the picture of the 2013 ES has been flipped horizontally. You are actually looking the left size of the vehicle. I confirmed this by enlarging the image. If you do that, you can see that the trim that says "hybrid" on the rear door is backwards (looks like a mirror image). Also, in that picture, the Lexus L logo in the center of the wheels is a backwards L

(I see that, while I was posting, jollick also posted and explained what he did.)

Here is what the image looked like before it was flipped.

I REALLY like it. That fire agate one is really gorgeous:

Interior seems to have addressed some of my pain points. Love the new stitching in the seats. Padded areas on the sides of the console. lets see how the material feels on the top of that console and the area around the front door handles. Love the brown/tan color scheme too instead of tan/black.

Who knows...might just wind up back in an ES next time.

As an aside, years ago, I read a study done by a psychologist in which he established that when people are shown pictures of people or animals running, birds or planes flying, cars moving, etc., they perceive that they are moving faster when they are shown moving in a direction from left to right in the photograph than when they are shown moving from right to left in the frame. The reasoning was that the difference in perception had something to do with the fact that, with most written languages, our brains are conditioned to read from left to right and that, with a photograph, we, thus, perceive motion more in a photograph showing left to right motion.

I had the DI engine is my 2006 GS300 and was lucky to trade it in on my my wife's 2015 ES350. That engine would have eventually had issues with valves getting an enormous amount of carbon buildup and burning oil. Her mileage was too low and time ran out on the extended warranty on the issue. If you are not aware, search the GS forum. With DI you do not get the valves cleaned by the fuel since it is not passing over them. Some engines have a standard injector and DI setup to help this issue but I am not sure which ones do and don't. I think DI is the cause for the so equipped engines needing more top end cleaning. There are others here that may be able to explain it better than me. In either case, I am glad her new ES does not have DI.
