Worst Gas Mileage
Anyone having problems with poor gas mileage?
Let us know the particulars...
What fuel type and octane?
Driving habits?
City/Highway driving ratio?
Current weather - temp, rain/ice/snow?
Passenger load?
Trunk load?
Anything else you may think is causing your low gas mileage?

Poor Gas Milage
I have had my 2014 ES350 for almost a year (purchased may 2014) and I hadn't checked the system gas mileage display until just recently, scrolling though the screens o the display. 17MPG which is what I was getting with my 2004 Murano wich I traded for the ES. My driving is 95% on city streets, commuting to work (14 mile round trip) and shopping on weekends. I have noticed that it's difficult accelerating smoothly after slowing for speed bumps or when not coming to a full stop. I'll press on the pedal, not receive an immediate response, press more and have a jack rabbit moment. It's filled exclusively with 87 octane regular, mostly single driver only with nothing except groceries in the trunk. On its single road trip so far (Houston to Dallas, ~250 miles) the mileage was noticeably better (from feel), but wasn't checked when on the highway. I'm disappointed since it has a 6 speed transmission and my Murano had a CVT, which are not supposed to have great gas mileage.

No poor mileage here on my 2013 ES300h. 36 mpg average since new as recorded on fuelly. Excellent mileage for normal driving in a car this size.

Thanks for responding...yes, mine is a 2015 ES300H with 17" wheels at 35lbs.
I am using name brand fuel at 87 octane. I had been using the remote start to warm up the car during our rough winter, but now that we are in the 60's, I am hoping that my mileage improves. Next fill up is tomorrow (the third since December 29th). Current mileage is 1240.+/- a few.

We have same age and specs, right down to the tire pressure and top tier fuel. We refueled today and got just shy of 37, even though the dash read 40. We don't use remote start though (heated garage) and are right about 1000 on the odometer.

I'm visiting gas stations about once every ten days and the best thing is, I only fill up a bit over a half tank to go 600+ km. I guess I could go even longer between fillups if I filled up to the brim but I don't see the point of carrying around fuel as dead weight when I'm not traveling long distances. I wonder how much weight I'm actually saving.

I would assume the weight of fuel would be similar to h2o, and at 8#/gal, 17X8=136#, about the weight of a small person. If you're only fuelling half a tank to save weight, you're only saving about 70 pounds, which isn't worth the convenience of fuelling twice as often or driving near to empty in my mind.

A liter of petrol weighs 700 g, so with a half tank (30 L) I'm saving about 21 kg, about half a small person. That's irrelevant on a car that weighs 1700 kg. Good call Arty, I guess I'll go for a full fill up next time.

The following link is an explanation of why not to let your fuel tank run low, especially in cold weather.

I let the car go down to "E" a couple times because i wanted to see how far it will take me. Now that i know i try and fill up when the needle approaches the 1/4 tank. Because my vehicle is a Hybrid, i dont ever want to have less than 4-5 gallons in the tank at any time just to be on the safe side.

im starting to get the hang of the hybrid system, i just did a 90 mile trip 70% highway and 30% city and i did my best mpg yet, 41.4 mpg. I really want to get 39-40 mpg this tank and i think i will.

You're getting there... You might need to slow down a bit, 75-85 mph whacks down your mileage a lot compared to 65. I'm trying pulse and glide in the city, I'm getting 44 mpg for this tank and I hope to hit 50
