Default BSM and Park Assist

Why are there switches for the BSM and Park Assist? I just leave both systems on all the time, otherwise what is the point of having them? After all there is no switch to turn off airbags.
Are the BSM lights in the mirrors LEDs or plain old bulbs. If they are bulbs I suppose they will burn out eventually but if they are LEDs then that would not be a concern. Why would one need to turn these systems off?
Thanks..

I actually asked that question and the reply was, " on a freeway the BSM is constantly going on and off and can be bothersome to some drivers." Huh? On the freeway is where you need it the most.

I turn my park assist off during winter storm due to ice/snow build up on the sensors causing them to go off which is annoying.

I wonder if cross-traffic alert is switched off when park assist is off.

That's the only time I've turned mine off, so it's good to have the option. As for BSM, I always leave it on, but some people are annoyed by the littlest things.

Not that I would know, but I have heard the park assist can be really annoying when sitting at a fast food restaurant in line. The bushes beside the drive thru cause it to buzz incessantly and I like to turn it off temporarily. I mean those people that sit in drive thru lines like to turn it off temporarily.

As for the BSM, I can't think of a time when anyone would want to disable it, but it wouldn't surprise me if there is some condition just like the park assist that drove the decision to include a manual switch.

Thank you. Will plan to leave them both on, then. Spring is here! No snow

i've been in drive thrus more than once where something(like plants on the side) sets off the parking sensors. Its nice to be able to turn them off when this happens.
