Default Moon Roof Busted, while driving on the freeway

This has to be one of the most shocking events of my life.
Driving at freeway speed, I heard a boom. I stopped & I looked all around, to find busted moon roof, coming apart near the gasket & a hole (irregular shape) near the middle. I didn't see how to attach photo. Otherwise, I have several photos...Is anyone aware of a recall?

Did you buy the car new? Do you have the pano roof, or normal sunroof?

Sorry to hear about your roof. It seems to be a problem that can happen on any make of car (google exploding sunroof). Hopefully your car is in warranty or your insurance should cover it. Here is a link

http://www.wjla.com/articles/2014/07...nk-105226.html
“If the flat glass at the edges of where it’s broken are curved up, that indicates something internally caused the glass to break—a defect in the glass,” said Pete Daly, the president of Paymer & Phillips Auto Repair in Laurel, Md.
In his 20 years in the sunroof repair business, Daly has seen plenty of these defects. He says techs at his shop fix blown-out sunroofs on a regular basis, many of them from customers that claim explosions.
“It doesn’t matter what make or model or what sunroof manufacturer—they all have these problems,” Daly said.

And its not just sunroofs that "explode". I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee rear vent window fail one day while driving on a side street. I think it has something to do with residual stresses during the glass tempering process.

This also true with the rear window. I had a recall on my Honda for the same problem, related to the defrosting elements.

Bring it to the dealer for their evaluation. It may be under warranty or they may take care of it as a customer accommodate. It also could be covered under your comprehensive insurance. Good luck.

From what I have read this is not just a Lexus issue. I suggest a Google search. A strange phenomenon. http://www.carcomplaints.com/news/20...-explode.shtml

Not only should it be covered by comprehensive insurance coverage, but claims made under the comprehensive coverage should have no effect at all on your insurance premiums.

Wouldn't this be covered under the factory warranty? Or will they claim that it was a stone that did it?

It probably should be covered by the factory warranty, but, if Lexus is requiring lots of hoops to be jumped through to get warranty coverage, it might be easier just to let the comprehensive insurance cover it.

I expect your comprehensive insurance has a deductible you will have to pay, but its still better than paying full price.
Im surprised you havent gotten it fixed 6 weeks after your first post. Must not rain much in your part of CA

The way that insurance policies are structured may well vary from one company to another, but, with the State Farm policies that I've had for decades, there has always been a deductible for the collision coverage, but the comprehensive coverage has never had a deductible.

Usually you have to choose whether you want $0 deductible on comp at a higher cost.At least that's how it is in my state.

I also have State Farm and $0 deductible comprehensive coverage. I remember several years ago I was told the $0 deductible wasn't offered anymore, unless you already had it and were grandfathered in. I never really looked into it, though.
