I don't want to get anything older than 2013 and in my price range I can either get a new 2014 bare bones or nicely equiped 2013...what you do you recommend?

I probably wouldn't buy a loaner either... people tend to abuse loaners / rentals.... Yes I know they come with a warranty, but still you never know if the car your buying has been handled roughly..... I know that the only time I ever put my foot in a car was when I still had my Avalon... had an avalon loaner for a couple of days and I wanted to see what it would really do.... wouldn't dream of doing that with "my" car.... I would take a good hard look at the less equipped 14 Es.... Even their base models are nicely equipped and at least for me, some of the extras that came on my car are kind of silly... like being able to "tell" the car to change the a/c temperature.. hell by the time you go thru all the crap to tell it what to do, you could have manually set the temp on the dash a lot quicker.. but that's just me... do whatever makes you comfortable... after all you'll be the one making the payments...

I bought my 'new to me' 2001 Solara in 2002. Car was a loaner (manager special w/ 6000 miles). 200,000 miles later I'm still happy. I would do it again.

I wouldn't buy a loaner either. I'm a "new car guy" and if something I like is more than I care to pay, I look around for something else, even if it's a different brand.

While most of the cars that I've bought in my lifetime have been new cars, I have bought a few used cars, and I would not hesitate to buy a used car in the future...if I could confirm some things about its history and how it was used.

What I would hesitate to buy would be a car that had been primarily driven by people who didn't own or have a financial stake in the vehicle, and, especially, I would be unlikely to consider a car that had been driven by numerous people, such as a loaner or a rental car. Even if most of the people who drove such a vehicle treated it with care, you know that there had to be some along the way who abused the vehicle.

If your funds are such that a 2014 ES is out of reach, I'm guessing that, if you search around, you can find a few unsold 2013 ES vehicles at various dealers. They are likely to be heavily discounted, and, considering the minimal changes in the 2014 ES, buying a 2013 would seem to be a good way to save a good amount of money. Especially, if you are planning to keep the vehicle for several years, the used values of a 2013 and a 2014 ES should be minimally different 5 or 6 years down the road. Also, I'm sure that, with some searching and patience, you should be able to find a used 2013 ES that has been treated gently and that is not a loaner or other similarly used vehicle.

I have to say, very honestly, That I treat any car that I drive with the utmost care. Watch where I park, drive gently, no eating inside the vehicle, etc., etc. I would, however, agree that most people, when its not their own car, do treat the car with indifference. I often see new cars with dealer plates and, unmistakably, a salesman behind the wheel driving fast and darting in and out. An indication of their attitude towards the car. For these reasons I wouldn't buy a loaner, a demo, or a rental.

My 2008 ES was a corporate car but it's a good bet that it was assigned to only one person. I really had no issues with it when I first purchased it but I had to bring it to Lexus because of the oil line fix recall and they somehow cracked the timing cover while doing the fix. After that I had problems with oil leaks and the engine had to be removed several times to get it corrected at the expense of Lexus. Other than that because the car was from New York there was some minor surface rust on the suspension parts but a good cleaning and a coat of Rustoleum took care of that.

It was my first Lexus and was a great car other than the issues above and since it was under warranty I paid $0 for the service that was needed on it. I would do it again if I had to. I am sure that whomever has it now is enjoying it just as much as I did.

Oh and it was a fully loaded luxury package on it so it must have been a nice car for the exec who had it at Fuji Corporation. The paperwork was still in the car when I purchased it.

If it was low mileage and had passed the Certified Preowned tests, then sure. I'd consider it. But I'm not sure those are eligible for Certified Preowned certification.

No way.. Loaner get beat!! My hubby works at a dealer and his loaners come back looking like crap.
He brings them home occasionally and I can not believe they have so little miles on them..
Some interiors looks like the car should have 100,000 miles when in reality it only has 2000 miles.
I can only image how they drive these cars.. Sad!

Nor would I. Perhaps a CPO returned lease, although other than the extended warranty, I truly wonder how thorough their 100+ point inspection really is.

Mine was a 300h 2014 lexus corporate car, in fact it was drive by 1 lady (the accountant of Lexus). Car was like new, with 10,000km on it. I got a 8,000$ discount on it.

I would not have got a loaner that everybody drive, I had a loaner with 4000km and it was a worst condition then my car. I'm happy with it.
