[QUOTE=yardie876;8873351] Aftermarket remotes come with larger antennas, which allow it to communicate with the car from greater distances.

This remote has NO visible antenna. Unlike another member's car photos posted on here that showed a giant antenna glued to her windshield - by the dealer no less.

Keep in mind that the RES app that you are referring to does not affect the 2013-2014 models. Only those who use the new app that came out late last year. That new app is not compatible with ES350's built before 2015. You would think that they would have updated it with something that actually worked better but I won't second guess the engineers. It must be extremely difficult to develope apps for these vehicles with all that they can do.

I just got an ES300H 2013. Still working as expected? So to confirm it works with your existing remote by clicking lock 3 times?

Thanks, just trying to add this feature and came across this post.

I purchased RES+ online and installed it myself. I was already installing the NAV bypass so since I had to dismantle the dash anyway it made sense to install RES+ too while it was apart. You just need to be careful and use trim tools to remove the panels. Those can be purchased from Harbor Freight or one of those tool stores. All the instructions that you need are provided with the RES+ module. Only the bottom right side of the dash needs to be removed which is relatively easy.

Once installed you need the dealer to register it to the CANBUS. The key still works to remote start using the lock button but the range is limited. It's best to use the app as there are more features and the range is limited only by access to cell towers both for your smartphone and the vehicle. It still works as designed.

Default Directed Smart Start

I just had a directed (see viper) remote start installed with the smart start app. All in (including parts and professional install) it cost me $600. I then had to buy the service plan which was another $239 for 3 years. Everything works great. I can remote start the car from anywhere with cell phone service (even the bowels of large insurance buildings). Also, all the features that I previously had on my car were unaffected. I did not get a new key, however now my Lexus key will also remote start the car by pressing the lock button three times. With that feature, the range is only as far as the key could have locked/unlocked the car but to start from my bedroom to the garage, using the key is easier than opening my phone, opening the app, etc... The only "concern" with the remote start is that as soon as you open the door the car shuts off and you have to restart it. I was told there was no work-a-round for this. I find it not ideal, but by the time I sit in the car, push the start button and put on my seat belt, the car is running. It has truly been a non-issue. The hardware/software are really expensive in comparison to alternatives but I figured if I was going to spend $350-$400 and get frustrated when it didn't start, for a few hundred bucks more, I could have everything, no distance restrictions, gps location capabilities and a much improved security system. No regrets after a week. If I discover any concerns, I will update this post.
