Many great feedbacks but it definitely comes down to personal preference. Especially they are completely two different cars. However, I think you are probably better off with the GS with the CPO warranty. Since you put so many miles per year, the ES will be out of warranty within less than 2 years. Usually there is a .1,.2,.3 seconds difference in publications but a .5 is big.
The GS is 250 lbs heavier than the ES too.
Does have just under 40 more HP,though.
I see the IS 350 at 5.3/5.4.

GS (non-AWD) has an 8 speed transmission vs 6 in the ES.
HP: 306 GS, 268 ES

Unless you're going to be drag racing, less than half a second 0-60 difference shouldn't even matter.

I agree it is personal preference. After frequently driving my wife's 300h, twice had a 13 GS loaner, and now ridden with a buddy several times in his 13 GS, if I were spending 25-30k miles a year in a car driving through the geography you mentioned, between the two, I would prefer driving the GS. Spending that much time in a car, I would also consider an older LS close to your price point.

I too have driven the '13 GS 350 a few times as a loaner; once for a couple of days. If I wasn't concerned about FE, I would have gotten a new GS or a used LS. But the ES300h met all my requirements.

The only time the GS is louder than the ES is during heavy acceleration. Thats by design, the GS has an intake sound generator that makes a deep intake sound and directs that sound back towards the cabin, if that bothers you, you can always swap the intake tube with the one from the 3GS. Same tube, no sound creator. I was going to do that but have gotten used to the intake noise.

I had two ES's, and drove the '13 GS and the '13 ES back to back to back over and over again making up my mind. With both on the good tires (the Michelins, the ES is louder on the Bridgestones and the GS is louder on the Dunlops) the GS is quieter, or at the most as quiet as the ES. The GS also has a more refined road feel because of its more sophisticated suspension setup. The GS rides more firmly at low speeds, but at speed the GS feels much more refined and premium to me. The ES rides well, but it rides well like a Buick rides well. The GS has more of that glasslike Lexus refinement that I remember from the LS.

I was initially very concerned about the ride and noise of the GS since I'm not traditionally a "sporty car" person

100% happy with my decision to go from the ES to the GS this time. I would never go back to an ES.

Total cost of ownership may be a better comparison if you are concerned about long term $$ spent. Otherwise the GS will satisfy for driving position and overall comfort

Now if you could get $15k off the msrp of the GS as another person did in another thread, or a comparable lease, then it's a no brainer. The GS is at a higher price point and a different ride than the ES. You can't lose with either one.
