Default Amp and sub for 2013 ES350 Premium Stereo

Hi All,

So got my es350 a few weeks ago, love the car but the stereo sucks. I don't want to spend a bunch of money and was considering an Infinity Basslink subwoofer. My local install guy said because the way the car is sealed it wouldn't be powerful enough from the trunk..

I searched this forum and saw people saying they installed a basslink in an older Lexus, but nothing in a newer one. Anybody use one of these on a newer lexus?

Thanks!
Shay

You're in luck because in the 350, the trunk is not sealed from the cabin. All you'd have to do is open the door where the rear armrest is.

If you had a hybrid, the batteries would block that area.

How tacky would that be. Driving around with the flap open to hear the bass. LOL!

I have a JL Audio 12 2-ohm sub, 500w, in a sealed box. The amp is an Alpine mono sub amp pushing 500w. Having it installed today. I'll post pics later. Read reviews on both and all indications are that this will drastically improve the sound. Shop owner suggested a 12inch because of the insulation in the car. Anything is an improvement on a factory 8 inch free air sub Lexus puts in it. I wish the factory stereo had a better eq setup within the stereo. We're very limited on adjusting the mids and highs especially for having 8 speakers.

Mburcham, thanks for the reply, let us know how it goes. I ended up buying a 12" Rockford Fosgate P300-12powered subwoofer but haven't received it yet. It had tons of good reviews so we'll see.

Yeah when I was testing driving the car I didn't pay much attention to the stereo b\k I thought, its a Lexus, right? Wrong.. it sucks, the stereo in the Jetta I previously had sounded twice as good.

Shay1, it sounds wonderful. The JL audio 12" and the Alpine are a great combo. I'm normally a Kicker and Fosgate guy. I also read a ton of good reviews on these two. The guys at the shop did a really good job installing them. In the future we may upgrade the other speakers. I was thinking the 12" would be more than what is needed but it really compliments the other eight speakers. Its nice to really be able the full range of music, from the lows to the highs.

Thanks Mburcham.

I ended up getting the Rockford Fosgate p300-12 powered subwoofer and its incredible. I have it turned almost all the way down to not get overpowered with bass. if I had to do it again, I would just get the 10". Anyway, its a huge improvement, I spent $200 for sub and $150 for install and it sounds like I have an expensive system now. My wife hates it

Did this change invalidate your warranty?

My wife was the one that wanted to upgrade the stereo in our '07. Pioneer DVD head unit, factory amp that powers the Phoenix Gold tweeters in the dash and Crescendo Audio mids in the doors. I had Pink Star Industries build me a custom 12" sub for my 1.2 cubic foot box and power it with a Powerbass 1000.1 class D amp.

Why did I mix and match the front speakers? My wife fried the PG mids. When you filter out the bass from the factory amp, it does a great job on the rest of the speakers. And if you aren't careful, a little too good. The PG mids were rated at 80w and had a 3/4" voice coil. The Crescendo mids are rated at 150w and have a 1.5" voice coil. Plus the sensitivity is higher so they sound better playing off-axis.

What did you do to filter out the bass from the factory amp?

Any details on the install?
Did the installer tap the audio off the sub in the rear deck?
