Default Strange noise from rear under carriage - Anyone have a similar issue?

My ES350 is always parked in my garage. One afternoon, I went into the garage to get something and I heard a humming sound coming from the car. It was very hard to identify where it was coming from. It sounded like a low horsepower compressor of some sort. I put my ear next to the rear wheel on the drivers side as this was the area the noise appeared to be coming from.

This is the second time I've experienced this happening. A couple things to note:

1. The car had not been operational for at least 8 hours.
2. There was no indicator lights on the dashboard flashing.
3. All doors were closed.
4. It seems to happen intermittently and I can't replicate on my own.

Has anyone experienced this? What could this be?

There is a noise that the car makes when you open the driver's door (I believe it has something to do with the brakes). Is the noise you are hearing different from this?

Approximately five hours after the engine <hybrid system> is turned off, you may hear
sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel
evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction. (Manual, around page 8)

^^ Not just the hybrid does this. Perfectly normal.

The <...> is intended to show both models do it, throughout the book. Cut and pasted from the manual.

Thanks guys. That makes a lot of sense. I was freaked out that there was a malfunction with a component of some sort.
