Question ES300h VS Avalon hybrid

Guys, my wife and I are looking to trade the G37 into an ES300h or Avalon. Her argument is if we're going for gas mileage, then Avalon uses regular vs. super unleaded for ES.
I'm thinking the yearly cost to fill up at about 50 cents more per gallon shouldn't be that much more to nix the ES off the list.

Furthermore, I had seen a thread where people were saying it's OK to use regular unleaded in the ES300h. Is anyone doing that?

Also since it's the end of the model year, should I pull the trigger on a '13 or wait for '14?

Could I negotiate close to invoice on '13's?

Thanks!

The 300h uses regular gas.

the ES300h uses 87 octane fuel. But I would think the approx 5K or more price difference (depending on options) between the Avalon and ES300h would be more of a factor for you if a fifty cent per gallon fuel cost factor over the life of the vehicle would tip you towards an Avalon.

Actually you are partially correct. As you can see in my sig, this is not going to be my car.
Discussions regarding gas mileage have all been her ideas. She and her friends are on a hybrid kick/save the wales/clean air kind of thing. So one of them got a top of the line Prius, now the other three must have hybrids... Welcome to my life.

Any rate, we'll probably get the ES since the "gas" dilemma has been addressed. I'll be thankful to get back to golf and watching football.

Thanks for the input.

Both the Avalon and 300h use the same engine/hybrid system. As others have stated, they both run on 87 octane. You should definitely get below invoice for the 2013, since they need to move the old stock for the 2014. See what others have recently been getting for theirs.

You are wise and have the right attitude.

Thanks Arty, I visited the dealer today and they had several but non with Nav in the color she wants.
What was surprising was that there's some 2013's made in August that are on the ship, arriving next week.

I thought anything arriving from now on would be 2014's.

A guess only, but since 2013 is the first year for the new gen ES and minimal changes expected, maybe they'll keep inventories a little higher until the 2014's start coming in.

Dallas, I'd still negotiate at or below invoice since it'll be devalued 1 year once its driven off the lot. Otherwise, I'd wait for the '14s. Good luck.

The 2014 model adds some extra features and goodies that it might be worth to wait for like Siri Eyes Free, etc.

Makes sense. I'm certainly not in a hurry.

Thanks!

i got my 2013 avalon limited hybrid black on black 43k out the door,it also came with tech pkg as well. i am very happy with it. Even though the only thing i like about the ES is the gauges. Other than that, i think the avalon is pretty good .

43k for a Toyota Hybrid? Ouch. How long is that gonna take to get your money back?

The new Avalon is nice, but that's a bit steep for a mid level car. All that matters is that you like it.

The Avalon is not a mid level car - in reality it is very, very similar to the ES.
