Default Streaming Music (like Spotify, Pandora) and Your Data Plan Usage

If you use Spotify, Pandora, Rdio etc, I hope you have a healthy data plan with your cellphone provider. Streaming music services use a good bit of data.

"...the Verizon Data Calculator says that if you stream 2 hours of audio every day, you will be using 3.52GB of data per month." - http://tinyurl.com/bnnlhmq

Here's an article that compares a few services and estimated data usage:

Those with unlimited data plans have no worries, of course. And if you're an iTunes users like me, there is no data usage issue...the music streams directly from our iPhones via Bluetooth.

Your first link has references to Pandora using 32mb's/hr. At 2 hours a day, 7 days a week, that's about 1.9gb's/mo. The second link, which shows actual usage, lists the data consumption at half that of the first (~900mb's/mo). Not sure which is correct, but I'm leaning towards the second one.

Oh, and you can stream Google Play music through BT, as well. Not just crappy iTunes. Of course, unless you have your music stored locally, you're still using data. Probably more that Pandora, depending on the bit rate you have it encoded in.

I was thinking of taking that one step further. I have two other accounts with XM/Sirius in my others cars and was thinking of dropping the XM in my ES300H and just paying the 3.95/mo for the app on my IPhone. I think I could then stream satellite radio through the BT. If so, does anyone have the data usage for the XM App?
