Default Mechanic Recommendation for Houston

Is there anyone in Houston who could recommend a good and honest mechanic? I've lost confidence in the guy I was using and dealers seem to be more interested in seperating you from your money than shooting straight wth you about what service your car really needs.

I recently contacted a dealer who told me that I needed to have my power steering fluid changed every 2 years. I found this hard to believe based on my experience of maintaining all the cars I have owned and the fact that the Lexus warranty and service booklet doesn't recommend ever changing it. So I called Lexus USA. After waiting a good ten minutes for an answer, I was told that if the Houston dealer told me that, there must be some special circumstances having to do with where I live that made this necessary. Baloney! I far as I'm concerned, the main office was trying to cover for the dealer who was just trying to get further into my pocket.

Is your car a 2013 model? If it's an earlier model you might want to post your question on the forum for 2007-2012 model years. It would be seen by more owners who might know of a good repair shop.

Insist and go with what the service manual requires. Nothing more, nothing less. Dealers, and most other quick lube shops always try to up charge you on service you may not need. Ever wonder why many offer "free" 20 point inspection, or similar?

You're in the wrong forum. The 2013 ES350 has electric power steering.

Thanks for the suggestions. Since I'm pretty much on the opposite side of Houston than Elite, I think I'll go to the nearest dealer and insist, as Arty101 suggested, that they stick to the maintenance items listed in the Warranty and Service Guide that came with the owners manual.

Thanks for your help,

Bill
