Nuluxe is Luxury?

They're not NuLuxe but they are a different vinyl material.

It's hard for me to drive a luxury car and say it's got vinyl seats. Yes, I know Lexus has the Nuluxe, MB the MBtex or BMW's Leatherette, but it's just vinyl instead of leather. Who want's to say they've got vinyl seats in their semi-luxury car, or for that matter a vinyl sofa at home? I also like wood instead of plastic or vinyl in the cabin where possible. But that's just me.

Which is why you can purchase optional leather seats...

I drove a base model 2013 ES loaner with nuluxe for 4 days. This was a few weeks before I took delivery of my car. And I must say, they were very, very comfortable. Lexus has done a fantastic job with nuluxe.

True, especially in the Bay Area. I know it's just me, but vinyl is still vinyl, which comes from petroleum which comes from....you get the idea. Just like I have a problem with faux plastic looking like wood trim, for your not so lux car.

Its the entry level car, and for most of its life cloth has been standard, so I don't see the big deal.

Some people choose MB-Tex upholstery not as a matter of cost, but purely for the fact that they don't want "dead animals" in their car. You're in the bay area, you know the type : D While I have no issues with dead animals in my car, especially since that's what is in all our gas tanks, I like having more options available for consumers, in Europe, all MB models can be ordered with MB-Tex, here in the US you have no choice as everything above the E class is standard leather through normal dealership channels.

You didn't buy the Camry because it has cloth standard? That doesn't make any sense.

The wife and I went to test drive a "entry" level ES this week and had to test out the NuLuxe.
It's kinda like leather, but it's not leather. What we didn't like was the smell of the interior because if it. You can definitely smell the difference between an interior with the fake stuff vs. leather. The smell made me nauseous.
For $40K, it doesn't seem right to have a car with fake leather. My wife was extremely turned off by this. I know a lot of other car companies have fake leather in their entry level vehicles, but that doesn't make it right. Just give me nice quality cloth seats, they are more comfortable any way and I'm not pretending to be leather.
We then went to test drive the 2013 Accord and fully loaded was $30K with real leather seats and had more features than the ES. It was very nice, not as nice as the ES, but still a great car.
As much as we liked the ES, the $10K price of admission for "faux" luxury didn't make sense.
