That's almost doubled the corresponding month's year sale of 2012. Probably due to a combo of ending model year, shortage of supply, and the economy. New models, more supplies, improved economy, good reviews and a push in ads = more sales for Toyota in 2013.

Default Test drove both of them

I test drove both of them and the handling and feel was very similar. The Avalon was just about fully loaded and even had rear seat heaters. Glass thickness is now the same on both cars which I felt improved noise levels in the Avalon from previous years. Overall, the Lexus was just nicer, heavier doors, less plastic, cleaner dash......etc. The really interesting thing to me was that Avalon was almost the same price as the Lexus. Not exactly apples to apples on features but close enough to make it a "no brainer" to go with the Lexus. When I told the Toyota salesman I was comparing the two cars he basically backed off his sales pitch and gave up.

Default Lexus wins over Avalon

I waited all summer for the Hybrid Avalon and was HUGELY disappointed when i saw the interior (I like the exterior). I bought the 300h and tell everyone that it immensely exceeds my expectations.

Pricewise, I figure less that $4k price difference; well worth the extra money.

Sales thru February: Avalon 10,543 (+57%) and ES 10,003 (+85%). Both of these new models are doing VERY well.

While I think the Avalon is a huge leap forward for Toyota, The interior is a far cry from the ES. (The center console plastic is pretty disappointing.)
