I just took a drive tonight and ours doesn't do any full range of motion check on start up. I'll do some more tests tomorrow evening, still curious how it works.

Thanks for the tip with the google search. I found a bunch of ref to the HID auto leveling. They pretty much all say the same that the lights 'sweep' down and back up at start up. I don't see that with my lights. So I'm not sure if they're working correctly.

Manual on P226 says "the level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number of passengers and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the headlights do not interfere with other road users".
I guess the only way to test it is park 20 ft from a wall with only you in it, turn on lights, get out put a bunch of heavy stuff in the trunk to weigh the rear down and check again (might have to restart car)

So that is how the auto leveling is suppose to work, but testing should be easier than having to load up the car. Should just sweep down and up at start up, as a test.

Being a next gen ES it could be using a brand new system that doesn't need to do a full range check like in the video, it just moves exactly where it needs to be and is quicker by doing so.

Isn't 'adaptive' lights the ones that swivel side to side as you turn?

I have not updated on the other thread, but I have the HID option. Although the Lexus website states that with the HID option you get the auto leveling system, I have checked with the dealer, as well as had an email exchange with Lexus and in both cases been told that the HID option does NOT have the auto leveling feature.
