ES 350 with navigation have a DVD player?
Hi guys, i have been following this forum for last 3-4 weeks(from the time i booked my ES). Finally i got the car and love it. One thing i am confused about is that the car sticker says"single DVD/CD player" in the navigation package section($2625). I tried to play DVD but all i got was audio and NOT video. I was in 'park' position. What am i doing wrong? Can i watch video through the nav. screen or not? Please clarify. Thanks.

you have to apply the parking brake, no matter what, even if the engine is off.
by the way, when did you order it and when did you get it? i ordered mine right before the Oct 20th "deadline"

So what's a DVD audio disc? It crams more music on it then a CD?

A music DVD, as far as I know, cannot be a disc full of MP3 songs, it must be store bought or created yourself with a program on a PC. Roxio is the only DVD creator that I know of that can make home made music DVDs. I have done it, but all you can get is 2 hours of music. MP3 CDs can hold about 10 hours of music, they are only limited by the total file size. I purchased one music DVD at a store to try it and created one using Roxio software. They both work in the ML stereo in my 2006 GS300. With the new ES, with the USB port, you can have as much music as you could ever want, just put your mp3 files on a USB thumb drive and plug it in for days and days of music.

Bobraynard, I think you're understanding it incorrectly.
For the nav, it can play DVD movies. If the parking brake is on, you can watch the video. In any other situation, you can only listen to the audio part of the DVD movie.
If it isn't the nav, it can not read DVDs at all. I tried by bringing DVDs to the dealership.

I figured it out after reading FAT nav manual. One has to park the car, apply hand brake and turn the engine off. However, one has to live ignition ON. I reserved it with deposit on Sept.28th and was promised delivery around Oct. 28th. Got delivery on 24th. Paid $39943 + Tax,Title.

"but all you can get is 2 hours of music"
I have a DVD recorder connected to a Direct TV and it can record up to 8 hours of audio/video. Direct TV has excellent audio stations. While video quality is obviously affected due to compression, the audio is not. I look forward to testing one out (hopefully next month).

I'm sure on the back of the NAV you can hot wire the signal from the parking brake to enable DVD movies while driving. Similar to the mods they are doing on the IS model. This is common even on the after market stereo.
I tried watching DVD on my ES at full screen it was cool to have this feature while waiting...
