It was the salesman so I'll learn not to trust them again! However, after reviewing the owner's manual it is clear that anything 87 octane and above will be fine...

To all those that responded, thanks for your help.

Well, the only valid point of putting 91 instead of 87 it's the the 87 is E10 fuel here while the 91 is E0

Since Ethanol contains less energy, it would make sense to put 91, but the fuel economy won't make for the price difference.

My 2014 ES Manual says regular 87 and strongly recommend so a top tier fuel (www.toptier.com) to keep the engine clean. That's more important than higher grade which won't help since the engine isn't designed for the higher grades.

I would be stunned if the dealer filled your car with premium gas when you picked up the car.

Based on just the poll results, it seems like owners are overwhelmingly using regular unleaded gas for their cars. Can somebody speak to the warranty issue or just the performance of the car itself? Thanks.

I see no reason why "plus" gas would give better gas mileage on a normal running car, other than an engine knocking on 87 fuel and plus fuel stopped that from happening.

You are correct and the ES was specifically designed to run on top tier regular gas.

Yeah, I read a bit about that "top tier" thing, basically it's the same fuel but they add cleaning agent... On the other side, they also say that ethanol is an excellent cleaning agent by itself.

I find that ethanol in gas reduces the mpg and power.

There is less energy in the ethanol, that's why. But here if you want E0 you have to go with 91 octane.

You can fill up with 87 octane top tier gas and spend a lot less than 50+ bucks...No point using Chevron 92 Super when the car is designed to run on REGULAR. 92 won't make the car run any better... Just cost you more money

Bob- I agree. Now if you drove a Vette, that's a different story.

Well Art, back in the day we put in Hess 101 octane @ .38 cents a gallon or Sunoco 104 octane (if you knew the gas station owner). Don't remember how much that was but under a dollar a gallon. Thanks for the laugh...

I made the mistake of putting cheaper gas in my car,one I will not make again. A better "quality" of gas with cleaners is needed in my book. I use regular unleaded and once in a while throw in premium.Frankly I see no difference in my engine using the premium, just the price (grin).Again, stay with those well known oil companies. In a "pinch" if you must, use the cheaper gas. My ES has great pick up and passing with CHEVRON.

Chevron regular for sure when around the home area with the ES, same for my 2011 4Runner. I've been using Chevron practically since the mid 80's. Never had any gas related problems.
