Congrats on getting out of a vehicle only worth $1,500 and into a quality vehicle.

You will likely NEVER need that $1,800 warranty. Personally, I do not bet that a vehicle is going to break when the manufacturer and the insurance companies are betting that it won't. Dealerships often "catch" people that are coming from cars that have been or are breaking down on a regular basis. A car valued at only $1,500 is the type of vehicle that may well have needed constant care. Owners of those types of maintenance nightmares mistakenly transfer those concerns artificially to the new vehicle.

New vehicles are covered by manufacturer warranties for the first 4 years or 50K miles (in this case). So, if you buy a policy four years earlier than you HAVE TO, you get zero, zip, nada for those first 4 years. You can ALWAYS wait until just before the warranty is going to expire and then buy an extended warranty contract ...if you are still THAT paranoid after owning the car the prior 4 years.

The finance logic behind my statement above...
$1,800 today is worth approximately $2,934.85 at a 13% return for those 4 years. Most investment accounts made over 18% rate of return last year so 13% is "conservative" in today's market. The reality is that the $1,800 you spent yesterday was really more spending close to $3K four years from now.

First, you should be aware how much your car is really worth and what its appraisal value could be.

Second, do you really believe the dealer really put $4000 on your trade-in when your car is just worth $1500???

It is simply just a reduction of selling price.

Well, it is a information forum here. If you want to ask questions, please ask. If you do not want to and think it is useless to you, just pass it.

Negotiated price (being upfront with all incentives offered at the time) = Y
X-Y=total savings

Things outside that equation: Trade-in, window tinting, warranty, etc... These are a separate negotiation and should be considered as such. It is usually extremely difficult to separate the two, unless you have no trade-in and are paying cash.

That said, it makes for some interesting reading and gives others a glimpse into other's buying experiences. I know I didn't get the best deal back in March of '13 (~7% off MSPP), but I was pleased with the deal. That should be the bottom line for anyone looking to purchase.
Totally agree, anything else is just BS.

You seem to be standing on the original statement rather than the intended implication, that one can just discount the trade-in value and determine the cars sale price (in response to a previous reply). In reality, you can't, because the dealer can change around the figures (by category) and still give the buyer the same value. Whereas the stated trade-in amount is significantly different, depending where the valuations are placed. The point is, that just discounting the trade-in dollars won't tell the financial story.

Happy and excited!

Default 2013 prices holding firm

Oct 2014 Report: Does the apparent glut of creampuff 2013 ES350s result in appreciably lower prices?

Answer: At least in suburban Chicago, asking prices are holding firm.

The big picture: across North America, there are hundreds of beautiful 2013 ES350s for sale. And the same dealers have a bunch of 2014s, and, now, 2015s to move. Is it time for some flexibility in "real" asking price for the now 2-year-old ES350s?

Specifically: Tradein 1-owner car, 12k miles, spotless. Nav plus Blind Spot Monitor, otherwise base. Public asking price: $35.3k. After some conversation and a test drive, the real price was $34.7k.

I was looking in the 32k neighborhood, so the gap was too great.
Interestingly, the price could be lowered by $1k by foregoing the CPO warranty.
No effort was made to price in a trade-in; I did not expect any for a 15 year old Passat.

These were supposedly "Costco" prices.

Hope this helps somebody.

I'm looking forward to end of the year... Hoping for 1-2 years old ES350 prices to go lower in light of new year models coming as well as new NX

Hello, guys, I have checking the forum for awhile. I just closed my deal from Sewell Dallas.
Thanks for all the help from the forum. Here is my deal, I hope it can help others too.
The sales person says it's the deal of the year. What would you think?

2014 ES300h Luxury package w/ Navigation

Mileage: 30
MSRP: $46,928
Extra freebies not included in the MSRP: window tint, all weather floor mat, edge guard
Final price: $40,000 + TTL

Also I was negotiating for the ES350 at first. The dealer ok with the price. However my wife wants go with hybrid at last minute(it's her car). So here is the deal for 350. Hope it help too.

over the long term (20+ years) stocks have historically averaged about a 10.4% annualized return including dividends. 13% is not conservative - it's fantasy. reversion to the mean.

That is exactly the deal of the year.

I bought mine there as well. I think we have the same exact car (MSRP 46928 and Starfire Pearl Color)

In my case, my OTD price is $42,500. However, I trade in a car which is appraised at $1500. So yours is about $1242 lower than what I have paid.

Maybe you should teach us how you achieve such great deal.

Is that $35700 include tax and tags? Try asking the people here for the dealer near you and salesperson they dealt with to get your deal.

I did send him a message and still waiting for reply.
I was just wondering if there's anyone else in Houston to lend me hand.
