Default Happy w/mpg

We have 2900 miles on our ES300H now and just drove from Atlanta to Charleston. Drove 5-10 mph over speed limit and got 36.8 mpg. Two people and lots of luggage!

As an update, I'm now averaging about 43 MPG overall with just over 1300 miles. Personal best was 47 MPG on a 50 mile mostly freeway jaunt that was significantly stop/go and crawl traffic.

I just filled up my es300h for the 2nd time. Have 840 miles on it right now. The first tank game me 400 miles exactly. The 2nd tank gave me just a bit more around 440. I normally drive in San Francisco where we have too many hills and stop and go driving. I took a long road trip and average around 40 mpg that time.
Not sure if this is good or not.

yesterday, 36.2 mpg actual.

I pretty much 'just' drive the car now. mostly commuting on I95 at ~75mph.

happy with the performance/mpg.

Bill, if you take it off Sports and keep it under 65, you might break 40mpg.

The sport mode or any of the mode settings has little to do with reducing fuel efficiency. I actually find I get better numbers with SPORT MODE and drive with that mode most of the time. I find the car is typically much more 'fun' in sport mode. Driving in eco-mode is like driving a one cylinder car.

Having too much 'fun' sometimes does not equate to high FE.

Arty101, I find that slow acceleration while the engine is on is a high fuel economy killer.

Elliot- agreed! Anytime the ICE is on, the FE goes down so might as well gas it quickly as possible to get up to speed.

"gas it quickly as possible to get up to speed"

Which is why I like the sport mode. I have driven almost exclusively in sport mode for my last two tanks and just had my best tank yet.

A tip for driving in Sport Mode - I accelerate briskly (but not excessively) whenever the engine is on and feather the gas pedal when in EV mode.

My mpg's are better now that warmer weather is here. I was getting around 38 in the winter. My average on the last 3 tanks was 40.9 (figured by hand). I use Shell 87 octane, eco mode, and run the tires at 36 lbs. I'm about 80% freeway/highway. I really feather the gas pedal while stuck in rush hour to take advantage of ev mode.
