Default No cup holder or compartment for rear doors? What's inside them?

Since all 5 seats are taken, I told my daughters to put their drinks in the rear door cup holder. My daughter replied, "there are no cup holders in the doors."

That means there are only 4 cup holders in the Lexus ES350 - 2 in the front center, and 2 in rear seat center armrest. I was surprised that the rear doors are enclosed with no compartments. What's inside them?

Can you imagine the mess if someone opens or slams such a door full of drinks?!

How many are in the IS, GS, LS? Perhaps a minivan would have been more appropriate.

Yes, this is a luxury car, not a soccer mom's transport van or SUV.

The OP joined this forum in April 2013. The OP posted the question in August. If the OP didn't use the backseats much, especially for drinks, and if the car was bought in April, then I don't think 4 months is an unreasonable amount of time to not know about the backseat design.

I also think it would be a cool feature to have a small cupholder in the rear doors, if it was possible.

My RX had them in the rear doors, and my Highlander does. My IS had them in the front doors but not the rear. My GS does not have them in any doors. I always found the door mounted ones to be useful, but best for water bottles (or anything with a lid).

Agree. Having even a small door mounted one that can hold a water bottle, is good for longer drives.

Just by having something, people will find a bottle that can fit the cup holder.

My Dad had a plastic upside down "J" shaped cup holder that slipped into the window bottom track.
Worked great, he moved it through at least three cars while I was in High School. Snapped
in subzero weather and he was pissed. Never replaced it though as cars began including them.

My solution I use is not lets Kids Drink in the car. Buying and carry, but No open or Drinking in Car. No way something does not get spilled in the car and/or Perforated Leather seat Holes. End of not enough Cup holders problem.
