Rear passenger overhead lights - design change 2010?
I think I read somewhere that the rear overhead lights received a design change from 2010 onwards?
That there is a switch near the rear grab handles for the rear passengers to turn on the light?
Can someone please post some pictures, if Lexus did indeed make the design change?
Thanks.

Yes, they did a design change, as you can see there's a switch next to the headliner handle and a reading LED:

Thanks for the picture.
I have since looked into the part number on a Lexus dealer site and I found out that they cost about $50 per side. (parts 81360K and 81390C) It also looks like there could be a lot of work retrofitting it - removing and adapting the existing coat hook, lowering the headliner, and safely wiring around the airbag curtain.
I'm not sure if I'll add them. It's just that after I finished the LEDs to the overhead console, I was evaluating other areas where more lighting could be beneficial.

I think it's not a big problem to fit them but why? Do you really sit behind and read?
You need 2 wires from the front center console. Those 2 wires should be glued to the headliner with 3M tape. You need to cut the headliner, there's enough space between the headliner and the airbag. Ask me how I know.

have you already done this?

No but I dropped the headliner twice because of the rattle. The rear roof antenna (tire pressure receiver) did some rattle and I had to drop the headliner. It's not hard. The hardest thing is that you need to remove the rear seat completely.

Pretty much everything involving the headliner is a p.i.t.a. and requires the removal of a ton of parts/panels. Not really that difficult though but very time consuming. I always hated that the headliner retained indentations after messing with it too.
You could retrofit it but I think it'd be more trouble than its worth. Way too many hours in interior panel removal and reassembly. Also, some of the panels have quite the hidden attachment points. A pillars when you have to use a long pair of needle nose pliers and the hidden tab or bolt in the B pillars.

The only reason I spent the time to rotate the connector to get the panel off is because I am quite sure that tab is what holds the panel on when the airbags behind the A pillars deploy.
Now that I think of it im 100% sure they do not sell replacements. As the one who told me the trick to getting it off is a current lexus master tech. If theres anyone that would know its him.

Yes, that connector holds the panel on when the airbag deploy but it was too annoying. I lost more than 30 min and nothing.
