Default 5000 mile "health service"

Greetings All,

We bought a 2007 with extended warranty and to keep within the warranty we are having the oil changed at the dealer so there is not argument about whether or not it was done. When we bought it we were told $65 for the change. When my wife dropped off the car they had booked her for the 5k mile health maintenance for $179! So I inquired about this up-sale as to what it includes. Oil and filter, tire rotation/inflation check and a hook up to the computer for diagnostics and interior cleaning. How much for just the oil change as I thought we were getting? $79 not $65. So for a hondo more we get a systems check and tire rotation (which is a pain with one jack but not a hondo's worth!).

Well my wife thinks the mpg is low at 19 mpg for city so i said go ahead with the computer hook up thinking maybe it'll find a bad sensor or something.

So the question is would I be better off getting a decent OBDII and checking the car myself in the future rather than springing for the full 'health maintenance' routine?

Thanks,

19 mpg is so low.
The best scanner for that car is Techstream mini VCI. Look for it on Amazon or ebay.

So this looks like I use my laptop to plug the USB-A connector into, correct? $25-$30 seems reasonable is that because there is so little hardware? What is the latest version?

It seem that Win7 64 bit can be an issue. Has that changed in later versions?

Lexus says that there were no issues uncovered in the scan and everything is up to snuff - whomever Snuff is

Thanks for you input

You need Windows 7 with 32 bit.
That's correct. You plug the mini vci to your lap top. You get the cd but AFAIK the latest version is 9.32 or something, you can find it on the internet.

This one says it does 64 bit. I think I will give it a try.

For what you are looking for almost any OBDII scanner will do the trick. Wired or wireless it makes no difference. I have both , a wired type Actron and I also use the Torque Pro 2 with a wireless BT adapter. The Torque pro reads a lot of OBDII output , much more then people know what to do with. Both also have an erase feature to delete the code to see if it comes back.

I got the new software to load but is requiring a Dealer Code. Did your software require this?

19 MPG in town is NOT that low. These cars typically get 21 MPG around town. With winter fuel blends and personal driving habits, 19 MPG does not indicate a problem at all. Also, you can take your car to any Toyota dealer and have them perform the service. It will cost you less.

I put in 123456 and the software opened. It seems it want to be paid for 2day minimum or a month or a year. Is true for you?

So I downloaded the software and got it to open and when I clicked on connect to car I got the attached screen. Did you run into the CD Key issue?
