FW: Lexus and Toyota dash replacement
Received this email from my salesman at the Lexus dealer I bought my 2007 ES350 from. I bought my ES in October 2014. The day I took delivery of the car, I swiped my hand across the dashboard. It was sticky. My salesman told me they would take care of it. A couple weeks later I took my car in to have the dashboard made right. They dyed the dashboard. Did a good job. The sticky is gone. Now I got this email (Dec .22, 2014) from my salesman. It was like a Christmas present! Looks like I'm getting a new dashboard. Somebody up there loves me.
Here's the email. I have changed some names to protect my salesman (Fred), and others. This was a confidential email for dealership sales personnel only.

Fred,
That is correct. However, the first steps Lexus is taking is to reimburse those guests that have already paid to have the work completed. Once those are completed, and inventory levels are back to the correct stocking levels, then we can start to order and replace those guests that are affected by weather damaged dashes, and in some vehicles, door panels. Parts availability is not expected to occur until sometime this spring.

A Toyota spokesperson says the company will be sending letters to customers alerting them that it will pay to replace their melting dashboards.
The company is doing this by enhancing or extending warranty coverage for 4.5 million drivers. More than 1,000 drivers of several makes and models have complained to the government about the sticky, shiny safety issue.
Dozens of car owners from Tampa to south Florida say they complained to Toyota and other manufacturers but the automakers refused to pay to replace the dashboard. The companies often responded that the warranty had expired.
In a statement released on Thursday, Toyota officials said: "In response to customer concerns, we are enhancing warranty coverage to provide complete relief for Toyota and Lexus owners whose dashboards and front and interior door panels may have been damaged."
These are the vehicles that will be covered with the warranty extension:
Toyota
4Runner 2003-2005
Avalon 2005-2010
Camry/HV 2007-2011
Sienna 2004-2010
Solara 2004-2008
Lexus
ES 350 2007-2008
GX 470 2003-2008
IS 250/350 2006-2008
LS 460 2007
RX 330 2004-2006
RX 350 2007-2009
RX 400h 2005-2008s
