Do Garmin, etc, navi systems run off cell towers or what? Just curious how they work since
they're noy connected to wi-fi internet!??

They are standalone GPS systems requiring nothing more than plugging them in.

The antennas are built-in and directly receive their signals from the GPS satellites that continuously broadcast their signals to earth. There is no linking/tethering with cell phones, etc.

In the picture, you can see the square antenna from the insides of a Garmin.

Actually you dont even have to plug it in. The built-in battery will last about an hour before needing to be recharged according to the specs.
