Hi,
New to the forum. I have a 2008 es350 with 165k km (100k miles). Just into the dealer as I had a "check vsr" warning on the info panel. Turned out to be an O2 sensor ($393 installed plus $100 diagnostic). Also had the front rotors done & oil change. Tech noticed that there is some oil residue around the gasket on the timing case, said he will check next visit. Asked what it would cost to repair- approx $2300! (16 hrs labour). Anyone had experience with this? Any advice?

I just had a similar experience - went to the dealer 2 days ago for an oil change and afterwards they told me the "front timing cover was leaking oil" and it would cost more than $2600 to repair. I too would like to hear any info or advice anyone's got.

Same thing here in my 07, leak is very minor but annoying. After getting the leak I've lost a bit of interest in this car and decided it's my new winter beater with a slight oil leak. I also changed a bunch of o2 sensors and have had ignition coil on # 2 cylinder go twice now. I do all my own work usually but I don't think I can tackle this one.

Do you have a picture showing the location of where the oil is leaking?

It would help me to see if I (and others) have a similar problem.

It happened to my brand new 07 eight months after I bought it. Dealer repaired it under warranty. From what I read in this forum at that time, they need to remove the engine to repair it. True or not I don't know.

Yes, timing cover resealing is a major job and requires engine removal (huge cover and tight access). I would say leave it alone and keep an eye on the oil level so that you don't run it dry... Unless it is leaking profusely and then you may look into repairing it...
