Default Official Facelift parts conversion thread

Hey all,

Was looking at what had to be a 2011 or 2012 ES today while out for lunch, and it got me to thinking.

Are the headlights and or taillights directly swappable to say my 07? The headlights look different...but the taillights (despite the diff. color lenses) look exactly the same shape but obviously have the added benefit of being LED and looking newer (duh).

Anyone tried this yet? My headlights are ok, I'll just need to do some more refinishing on them to get them just right. But the taillights I think would be a nice upgrade if they're plug and play considering you can probably get the outers for $100 more than changing all the bulbs to LED.

EDIT: Changed title. This thread should be used to track any upgrades to facelift parts from 07-09 cars up to 10-12 parts.

Sound like a pretty good idea, interested to see how it goes.

my only concern isn't the outside, but rather the inside. I have an odd feeling that the connectors might be different...but then again being essentially a camry, I would imagine Lexus would cut costs by using the same inner housing and just changing the lens/internals.

I'm gonna do some more picture research and hopefully someone will chime in who attempted it. The outers alone will cost ~$300 so I'm not looking to pull the trigger until I can confirm.

Alright, so I'm starting my research with the taillights as they seem to be the most 'direct swap' of any of the facelift parts.

07-09:

10-12:

Unfortunately these are the best pics I could find of each light. Looking at them side by each shows from what I can tell to be an identical shape. The inners look to be a direct swap, no question about it. The one thing that I'm hesitant about the outers, is the lower left hand corner on the 10-12 seems to have a bit more of an arch to it than the 07-09. I think it might just be the pictures, so I'm pretty confident at least from an outside view, they're a direct swap. It even looks as though the bulbs are in much the same places, which bodes well moving on to inner housings.

I think I'd only go with the chrome door handles and/or the chrome rocker strip upgrade. No one will really notice new taillights and not much of a noticeable change for $$$,IMO..
OEM parts are high but someone here did an chrome overlay of the rocker strip that is said to look good.

Now onto the inners. (Lexus..why couldn't you just use black plastic like everyone else?!)

07-09:

10-12:

Really bad pic of the 10-12, but from what I can see, the connectors seem to be the same and even in the same location...however I don't think the picture of the 10-12 is of an LED tail. Can anyone confirm whether all 10-12 cars came with LED or were some standard taillamps?

The 2010-2012 does NOT have LED tails, no model has LED tails. They are ordinary old incandescent bulbs. Only thing thats LED is the CHMSL.

As for the shape, the light shape are the same on the 2010-2012 as on the 07-09, the question is if they will bolt up the same. I recall that the 05-06 rear lamps would not bolt onto the 02-04 even though the shape of the lamps were the same.

As for the front, you'll need the bumper and grille to be able to bolt on the lights.

It's a shame the '10-12 ES doesn't have LED taillights when the IS does.

hmm. so then it just looks like they do because of the cuts in the reflectors.

I'd disagree though, I think that for $300 the updated tails are definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

As for the headlights, given that you'd need all the peripherals, I don't think that is.

Where can you find the tails for 300? I'm assuming you don't mean each and you're talking about replacing all 4 pieces? If it can be done for that price, I think its reasonable.

Yep, they look LEDlike, but the 2013 is the first ES to have LED.

the outers are ~120 a piece. The inners I haven't been able to locate elsewhere online yet, but sewell lists them at 200/side I bet ebay or car-part.com could have them cheaper.

I mean you guys can definitely call me crazy if you like, but I think for 3-400 bucks that's a significant stylistic improvement...

I agree, I think it would make the car look a lot more up to date...

You could swap all of the parts from a 2007-2009 model from a 2010-2012 only thing is when it comes to the front bumper you will have to replace that as well as the grill
