Ha, true. Sometimes on boards, I'll ask a question -- one I imagine where the answer lies in wait via Search --just to generate a little conversation. No harm meant by it, and I'd hate to think people thought I was acting entitled by doing so.

I think responses like the OP received are just plain out of line! It's a message board, get over it. Just look at the topics on the first page of the forum. Almost all of them could have been answered with a google or forum search. If you don't want to help another forum member fine but why not just not respond? Everyone that is a member here has the right to ask a question without being humiliated by another member.

As for you other guys, this forum is no different than any other. OP has posted multiple threads with common questions in the first few days of owning his car. Redundant threads on the top of the page push others to the back where answers may really be needed, but get overlooked.
Nobody's saying don't post here, but just use a little common sense and try to find the answer first. Again, the car's been around since 2007, chances are someone's already asked the same question.

I'm not saying its right or wrong, but this is how forums work. If you want to change the way it works, take your time and be sure to answer all the simple rudimentary questions over and over. Be sure not to miss any.

OR, you could just ignore what you may consider to be a frivolous question or answer and move on. I choose to move on.

Thats a perfectly logical thought...people just don't do that though.

SW10ES, your response (and JCAT350's) could easily have been:
"Those are covers for threaded holes where a tow truck operator can insert a towing eye. By the way, please try to find answers using your owners manual or google before asking a question here. . . that helps keep the forum clean."
That would have provided information and forum training to many people without being harsh.
"People" do commit logical, non-harsh acts from time to time.
Cheers.

It gets tiring after a while. You could have also very easily avoided the post if you didn't like our responses, or respond with whatever information you'd like to provide.

And for what its worth, the OP's question had been answered already by the time I posted in this thread. I did not admonish the OP, I simply explained to him why he was responded to in the way that he was.
Its easy not to understand when you have 3 posts, but when you've been posting on these forums for 10+ years like I and others have been...it gets old.

As jcat said, we've responded in that way to the OP several times.

You wrote to ThumperPup, "[y]our post reeks of entitlement. It is incredibly annoying. . . " If that's not admonishment, I need to purchase a new dictionary. Those words don't fit with "I simply explained to him why. . ."
I'm not immune to being annoyed and am as happy as the next guy to encourage good forum practices. I also value grace in its many forms and feel that an important part of good forum practices is to always be Honest, Relevant, and Kind.
Okay, since most folks are probably questioning that "relevant" thing I mentioned up there, I'm going to say "God Bless You," and get back to looking at the threads for more things to learn about Lexuses (Lexa? Lexi? I'd ask what the correct plural of "Lexus" is, but I think I'll search the web first).

Would you walk into a club meeting in person full of Lexus enthusiasts discussing more advanced things and ask loudly and repeatedly basic questions about your vehicle that are found in the manual, and then whine when people treat you rudely? Even worse, after everybody politely says "hey, that information is in the manual try that" 4 times and THEN get snarky, thats wrong?
This is not unique to this forum, you see this on any forum on any topic.

We want the same thing. . . relevant, helpful, and thoughtful interaction with other Lexus owners. Thanks for being part of the process.

Yeah, I can't really argue with that. . . four times is probably suitably patient before turning up the heat a bit. Heck, not many folks will give you four "passes" these days.
