I'm trying to decide between a 2008 and 2009 ES 350 with navigation. Everything about the two cars is the same, including mileage (43k). Love the exterior and interior color of the 2008, not so crazy about the 2009 exterior and interior colors. 2008 price is $26.5k, 2009 price is $27.4k. Is the year difference really that significant from a resale perspective? Is there anything new on the 2009 that I should know about?

The initial reaction would be to go with the newer car, that's natural. I however will suggest the opposite. The year difference is significant, mostly for mileage per year. The 08 has ~11k per year, where the 09 has closer to 15k per year.

Not a huge difference, but 11k per year is more like a grocery getter, where 15k per year is more likely a commuter car. Commuter cars tend to be driven harder and have longer intervals between maintenance due to lack of time.

Beyond that, why pay the extra grand just for 1 model year newer when not a single thing changed? Chances are you could snag the 08 for 26 flat or 25,5 and save even more cash, where you can't do much better than 26,5 or 27 flat on the 09. It's just a waste.

I agree, 08 and 09 are identical, if it were 09 or 10 that would be a different story. Go for the color combo you like, and whichever car is in better condition.
