Default Are these services common or necessary on my 2009 es350 w/20,000 miles?

My first post as I just began membership here. My question is on my es 350 2009 with 20,000 miles, should I question the following services as whether they are really needed. While getting my inspection, I was told that I should get the following: A/C Cleaning service ($195), Power Steering Flush Service ($179) and Fuel Injection service ($189). I'm feeling somewhat "taken" since I approved all three of the services.

Nope, nope, and nope. Sorry dude, you got taken. My advice is to only do those things listed in your owners manual maintenance schedule, and always ask for only those specific things (oil change, cabin filter change, whatever it is). Never ask for the XXX mile service. They will "inspect" about 100 things you can look at yourself, and charge you a 400% premium for the honor..

Speaking of dealer ripoffs...
I read where someone was getting a oil change and the service manager came into the waiting area with the cabin filter in his hand saying to a guy that it would be a good idea to have the filter changed.
The fellow asked how much.SA says $$90 or something for filter part and labor. The guys says labor? You just took this filter out and will have to put it back if I don't want a new filter. Why would you charge me labor?
Great question.
The services posted above and the tidbit I posted just shows why dealers have a nick name of stealerships.

Welcome to Club Lexus. As others have said, you got ripped off/taken, It happens to all us at one time or another. A good learning experience though. Be very specific with the service department on what you want (required services vs. recommended by the dealership). You can also go to another dealership that might be a little more upfront with you.

Some one has to pay for the fancy "waitin" areas plus the car wash. Let the LS460 and LS600 owners finance that.

I wss wondering I know you say that the op got ripped off for those services at 20k

No one is telling me I need it but I was wondering just for preventive maintenance at 70k would a fuel injection cleaning and fuel filter replacement do any good ?

I am 50/50 on this one: his car is 5+ years old with low mileage so I tend to think that fuel injector service would be a good thing for the engine as it does not see to much action. The AC cleaning is good if there was a funny smell to it, so is good to get that out. As for power steering flush, probably unnecessary since the mileage is low and oil is probably in good condition (but it won't hurt to have it done and never-ever do it again). So of the 3 services done, about 1.5 of them are OK IMO, and the others meh. They may help with the resale value some day though

^^ this

It sure didn't hurt anything, you can feel good that it's done, and indeed it might have helped. Just don't do it again for at least 5 more years!

I second this. I would look at the maintenance manual see if it's needed at this time if you want to keep the car at excellent condition

Actually many people think that most dealerships will rip you off and they're expensive, but we should understand their goals as a dealer service department to keep the car at the top notch condition as if it was new or near new vs. repair when things break. Prevention is another goal for dealerships.

They have to be expensive b/c of their overhead (marketing, training/paying highly trained lexus techs, etc...) and OEM parts that are way more expensive then non-OEMs. I am not defending the dealerships and I agree some dealerships will rip you off as SAs do make commissions.

The last time I went to the dealer for anything was when we had the initial 5K mile service! We found an excellent mechanic locally that specializes in Lexus, Toyota and Honda's. He checks the car every time we take it in for an oil change and doesn't charge just for looking! I knew it was time for a new cabin filter so I ordered one online and took it with me and gave it to him. He installed it free of charge!

Granted, if I lived closer to a city that had a Lexus dealership I may have went to them more often but I enjoy supporting local businesses and enjoy talking to the person crawling under my car instead of some service advisor who's paid to generate income for the dealership.
