Default noobie help - buying 2009 es

hello!

first timer here... looking to get a preowned lexus. found and put a deposit an a 2009 ex-leased car, with nav and premium package...

asking price was 26995 without certification. dealer drops to 25895, plus 995 dealer prep, plus 3k or so for certification (+3 years warranty)... otd totals 32k ish... (the cert drops the rate, so we're financing at 0.9% apr)

car is in pretty good condition, some dings here and there, only nearly 17k miles...

i feel like this is too much... is it? any tips would be great appreciated!

thank you!

+3k for certification??? I don't recall that on mine at all. Shop around; you should be able to get a better deal than that. What's the mileage?

$26,500 is a good price for that car in average condition, according to my information sources. That's without certification -- I don't know how much that should be expected to raise the price.

I purchased a certified preowned 2009 ES 6 months ago and paid $29500. The car had 13K miles, was in perfect, like new condition, and had nav, back up camera, blue tooth, heated and ventilated seats, adaptive headlights, leather, and park assist. The car was purchased from a NJ dealer, so I think if your cost with certification is around the same, then it sounds like you could get a better deal, since my purchase was 6 months ago.

$32k is just too much, you can buy a 2012 for $4k more...

Go with new 2012 leftover for the extra $ if you can. There should be deals aplenty as the new 2013 models start arriving in August.

Agree that $32K is way too much. $26-27K is more like it. Walk away.

For $32, you should be able to get a 2011 or, as others mentioned, for a bit more, a leftover 2012.

Get a 2012. I was at the dealer this morning drooling and the salesman said I could get a base 2012 for $34,500. I bet that will come down even more in a month when the 2013s come to town.

My price was before taxes, but was a pretty fully loaded certified car that looked brand new. 6 months later you should be able to get a comparable 2010 for at least the same price. Of course, you could probably get a left over new for not that much more, but probably not as fully equiped. The 2010 and newer has the bluetooth that allows you to transmit music wirelessly to your car stereo, and I believe it also has the ipod integration. The 2009 only has the audio jack input which allows you to play music from your phone, mp3 player etc, but not control it from the car stereo. If I had realized that, I probably would have gone for a 2010 or newer model, though I am very happy with my car so far.

thank you for your input, everyone!!!

i ended up finding a better deal!!! 2010, like NEW, 13k miles, and the platinum warranty for another 6.5 years for the same price (8yr plat-1.5 used)...

for kicks and giggles, i looked up the 'old' dealer site... the 2009 is listed for 3k below what they were asking of us!!!! RIDICULOUS!

anyway, glad to have found this forum -- you guys rock!!!

Yup, and terms like "dealer prep" are just code for "random markup to compensate for any discount we claim to give the customer".
