Default Puddle Lights

I have read that the mirror lights are supposed to come on as you approach the vehicle. Mine do not. I have not been able to turn them on in any way. Am I missing something. HELP!

If the car is left unlocked at night and you approach it my lights don't come on. If it is locked and you approach it the lights come on. If I hit the unlock button on the fob the lights will come on. If yours don't work that way I suspect it can be a SW change by a dealer to make them work. By the way do your interior lights come on when you approach or unlock the car?

Thanks Jag, Now I feel pretty dumb. My car stays in a locked garage, so it is always unlocked. I locked it and presto.....worked just as you said!!!

That's weird as mine work locked or unlocked. My car stays in the garage too but as long as the FOB is with me the lights come on locked or unlocked. Must be a S/W thing. I have a 2008 ES.

Changed my bulb to LED and now it stays on locked or unlocked. It stays on even when the car is driving.

Did you use 194 wedge or 2825 bulbs? I plan on changing out my puddles when I get my turn signal mirrors wired and installed with some ijdm 5 or 12 smd 194's... has anyone tried using those? I can't think of how replaced ones would stay lit indefinitely. From reading the IS forums all I have heard is that they just don't fade in and out like the oem ones.

I used these ones from v-leds.com (V-LEDS Part ID: 194_4_HPF_W_5K)

http://www.v-leds.com/Interior-LED-B...25900-1-2.html

- they are definitely pricey for a pair of led lights but they are worth it. The lens for the puddle lights isn't that great so any LED that isnt as bright as this one will not do the job.
- and yes, after installing these, they stay on 24/7 (car on, off, driving, reverse).
- I found it stupid at first but people are asking what mod i did to keep the light on cus it is really helpful especially when you are at someone's blind spot, etc.
- I will post some pics of what led/ hid mods i have done later.

Maybe if you threw a resistor in the loop with it (similar to what you have to do with the rear turn signals to not throw a "bulb burnt out" signal to the computer) it would operate properly. I want to pu LEDs in mine, and it would kind of upset me that they're on ALL the time...

Yes, a resistor will make it work properly. But, it is such a waste of money and time in my opinion.

I just replaced the puddle lights in my 07 with 1.5 watt smd leds. Contrary to what some have said mine do auto dim off but it might just depend on what bulb you use to replace it with.
As acda has said the lens isn't the clearest so you will need a VERY bright led to do the job. My 1.5 watt bulbs are bearly visable but given that I purchased them from ebay who knows what wattage they actually are... *shrug*.

the bulbs i used
the bulbs installed

Why are your puddle LEDs on all the time?
I've changed puddles to VLED LEDs (the older fit well version) on a couple of other Lexus vehicles and never had the LED stay on all the time. The LEDs worked the factory bulb and even dimmed though faster.
I've never heard or read of anyone having their LEDs stay on and many here have done the change.
Haven't did the change on my ES yet.Your LEDs on all the time concerns me.

Never mind....
You have after market signal mirror covers which is probably the reason..

The puddle lights being on all of the time, 24/7, would be a deal breaker for me. Is there ANY way that can be resolved?
