Wiper is hitting pillar on driver side

That's how mine started and just got worse over a short time. The bolt that the nut was applied to was somewhat worn and I remember that the garage guys had to "rough up" the bolt somehow to give the nut a better grip. Worked for years after their modification.

did they rough it up to the point that you can no longer unscrew it and adjust it anymore?

Never had to readjust it after that. I think this happened Spring of 2009, never had a problem since and traded it in 10/11.
